My 8800gtx started playing up yesterday and I was wondering if anyone recognised the fault.

Artifacts began appearing on the screen to a lesser or greater degree in Windows and after a short time the PC would freeze. Now though the artifacts are also appearing on the bios boot screen upon turning on the PC.

I've put in an old 7800gtx which works fine so I'm just assuming its the card.

try ati tools and run an artifact scan ,if that is the problem look up the remaining warranty on your card and be prepared to ship it to the appropite party

Have you cleaned it at all?
Dont take off the cooler unless you have some more ram pads to replace them.

worth a try I think..

Clean the fans & check it for overheating.
Clean driver install.
If overclocking turn it back to defaults.
AFAIK drivers and overclocking only applies to Windows, if it is corrupt at the BIOS screen something is very wrong as the drivers aren't loaded yet.

So it could be a case of overheating (would have to be a LOT of dust) or something is broken.

Something ahs to be broken on the gfx card, i seriously doubt overheating here!

At first i thought maybe drivers as ive had problems with crysis with certain drivers, but in bios then its defo the card!
