I've just used ATITool 0.26 to find my max memory overclock, and its dropped it to 870, it faults at stock 900! Is my card faulty? my core is at stock when I perform this test. Thing is, I've installed a HR-03 cooler to it, is there anything I can do?

The trouble I found with the HR03 was it doesn't cool the memory very well ... and I felt the ramsinks provided weren't up to the job on my card.

Having said that, I dont know if ATitool works well with nvidia ... I personally don't trust it.

hmm, I suppose I'll just overclock the core and the shader, and leave the memory at 900, I'm just worried that because ATITool is finding artifacts at 900, im damaging my card by running it at 900? should I underclock it to 872 or whatever ATITool shows is safe?

thats what I'm worried about, because I've taken the original heatsink off, I'm not going to be able to RMA it if it dies. When I took the original heatsink off, I was careful enough not to rip one of the anti tamper seals over one of the screwheads, so I could put the original back on and RMA it then, and risk them finding out I've changed the cooler. What do you recomend? Is my card a duff? or will it be fine at stock memory clocks?

Try it and find out.

I have RMA'd plenty of cards which have had their heatsinks removed and re-installed with no issue

ok, but surely that means telling EVGA that I was using ATITool to overclock it? or should I lie and tell them that I was getting artifacts at stock speeds?

@Tripnologist: thats exactly why I think something must be wrong, even with the stock cooler I couldnt overclock the memory, yet the core goes all the way up to 653!

Theres nothing wrong or "RMAable" if the card runs fine at stock speed - unless stated otherwise overclocks are not guaranteed.

I know Rroff, but the fact that ATITool is finding errors and artifacts at stock speeds, must be a sign that the card is either on its way out already, or the card was not up to scratch in the first place. I've had it less than a month, and was expecting to be able to overclock it quite nicely, but it looks like I'm going to have to underclock it to make it last!

Oh thought it was running fine at stock... mis-read your post.

However ATITool is somewhat flawed and especially after testing a few settings it will continue to show artifacts back at stock for some reason - when everything else is working fine.

If however you can boot straight up and run ATITool at stock straight away from clean so to speak and its showing errors at stock then it definatly sounds like its on its way out.

ah right, think thats what I've been doing! Ill have a go when Im back with my computer, but I'm sure from memory I could only overclock the memory up to 903! Its a tad annoying theres nothing I can do about it! do you rekon its worth volt modding it in about a year when its getting a bit old? or is it not a voltage issue? I thought it was overheating with my stock cooler that was causing my memory not to overclock, but since changing the cooler, its not made any difference

From my experience the gains from voltmodding aren't that great and usually significantly reduce the lifespan of the card...

It depends what u expect from the card. I had 692 on the core of my 8800GTX before volt mods, after volt mods I can get 752. I'm hoping to get even more with lower temperatures. Ram does 1105 at stock volts so happy enough there.
