8800gtx selling out quick

i would say get a gts 640mb over the gtx. mainly because at some point you'll end up wanting to buy the next generation of cards and the gtx is a lot cheaper and will depreciate in value a lot less. say a gts might sell for £150 at the end of the year 2nd hand but a gtx would only get £180-200. save that money for next upgrade ;)

and get a e6600 now, or april anyway for like £160, then end of year get a quad version for £160ish also.

as for the G90 or 8900's, whatever its called the specs are THE SAME. the only reason they "might" call it a G90 is because they "MIGHT" be able to make it on a 65nm process, same pipes, probo gddr4 and 1gig of it,128 or 96 shaders. they can release it as a G5000 if they want but doesn't change whats under the hood.

unless there actually part of the core not working right and ATi have completely screwed up the card will be faster, matches the G80 in all specs but also add's a wider bus, more mem, faster mem and faster core speeds. i doubt it will manage get more than 20% faster. can only see G90/8900 being faster if it does get to 65nm and even then its not gonna get hugely faster, it will have a narrower bus(most likely) and realistically not hugely faster clocks than a R600.

What's the going price for a 8800GTX now?

whole point is, the 8800 gtx at this moment in time, is still reduceing in price, buy one now, cream your self with max everything and resolutions, and watch ati have 2 months of fame, and by the time there new series is out, you would have saved up enough money to upgrade to one of them.

OR

wait for a ati R600, get excited, be pleased with your self you just spent 600 quid on a card that will hold the market for a couple of months....

Some good points actually, theres no way ATI could release there new card @ £350, especially if its new and its 1024meg....not even £450 maybe £500+ !

As for Q6600, even if it does reduce to £330-350 in price its still only few fps faster then the E6600, Proberly best to wait for SC to properly utilize 2 cores and for Crysis to appear ;)

The 8800 Ultra is coming on April 17th :)

Yeah, and so is the 8600GTS (which is replacing the 7900 and 7950's). That's what i'm going for unless the 8800GTS's come down a little bit more :D But, i can't afford any yet, ain't got any money. :( I'm saving though

Well managed to order a nice BFG 8800GTX for £350 notes. Was wanting the vanilla EVGA 8800GTX card but couldn't find it for love nor money. So seeing as this was one of the cheapest that was in stock i am happy. I will be royally miffed though if nvidia bring out the 8900/G90 in 2 weeks time lol.
