Hi, just wanted some advice I currently have an 8800GTX and was wondering if I bought another one and ran it in SLi would it be a great gain on my Dell 2408 TFT, I just thought it would be a cheaper option than buying a GTX 280 as you can pick up an 8800GTX for around £100 now.

If I had 8800gtx sli instead of 8800gt sli I would not have upgraded to a GTX280 :D

In other words yeah I think 8800gtx sli would be sweet

SLi in Cryssi doesnt scale as well, i think generally only a few more frames, where as your seeing high percentage of scaling like Call of Duty 4.
Personally i would go for a single powerful card rather than xfire or sli.
Also most people argue that a single 8800gtx handles everything easily atm, but you can never have enough POWER!

If you think Crysis only gives a few more frames in SLI then I suggest you check the leader boards for the Crysis benchmark on this forum.

A few more frames in Crysis for xfire maybe but SLI in my experience and the benchmarks by people from this forum shows a very nice increase from SLI.

The smaller memory on the g92 cards is the only reason why very high res does not benifit as much. At 1680 by 1050 I saw a very nice going to SLI on Crysis.

If the game in question is Crysis 8800GTX SLI would smoke a 4870 (I mention a 4870 as if you sold your 8800gtx and was looking at spending the same amount you were going to buy a second hand gtx for then it is the next logical choice) :D

Dont seem like 8800GTX SLi is that much faster than a single 4870 in Crysis, still its better bang for buk I rekon getting a second GTX for SLi.

To the OP> I use to a while back run 8800gtx sli's. Unfortunately a problem arose so my mb was no longer useable and then I sold the second gtx off.

Personally I found SLI a positive on the whole and there were a few issues/bugs which needed to be fixed.

It's now a good time to try out 8800 gtx sli as they don;t cost so much as when the were first released.

I tend to find my 280 slightly faster than the 8800gtx sli ( at stock) But overclock the 8800 and then the gtx sli setup is a little faster.

But for convienience and less power usage and less heat produced overall then the gtx 280 is the one. And the 280 has the better picture quality than the 8800 gtx.

If you come from a single 8800 gtx then the 280 will seem like a decent upgrade. Coming from an SLI 8800 gtx and then it is a downgrade in some respects.

I am hoping that over time nvidia will provide the consumer with drivers which actually address the issues of the 280 rather than banging out drivers which enable phyxs but has the picture quality of a SNES.

I would say if you can find a gtx for 100 quid or under then go for it. If not then try the 280gtx. It's not a bad card overall.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'm going ahead now with the SLi route just need to find that bargain, so I would be better off getting an 8800GTX then buying a GTX280 for £240 with nearly the same performance I will let the other half know that I can save us some cash and then maybe she will go a bit easier on me LOL :D

Considering you already have 1 GTX, yes you would be better off getting a second GTX to get similar perforamnce to a 280 for far less cost.

See sig ;)

The only "issue" I have with my SLId 8800GTXs is the heat they can pump out when combined with the 780i chipset (i take it you already have an SLI capable mobo ?)

Although they idle at around 60 degrees each - when they are being put through a good session they do get into the 90s - make sure you have good cooling / airflow in your case ;)

I have the Dell 2407 and must say COD 4 at 1920x1200 maxxed out plays very nice at 90 FPS :) with a solid 125 by getting rid of some of the stuff like "glow" and "specular map"

My board is an EVGA NFORCE 680i SLI with an E6850 and 4 gig of RAM.
