Quick question, mate has some ancient 8800gtx's sli'd, what would be a comparable single card these days?? Plays on a 1080p monitor so guessing even the 768mb vram will limit it, I just don't know the recent comparison. Only reason to keep them would be the he doesn't use the central heating much

An SLI 8800GTX is maybe the equivalent of a 5850 or 6850. With a lot less power being consumed.

correct about performance but a lot more power will be used.

a single 8800 gtx used about 200w idle and 300w at load while a 6850 uses 135w idle 230w at load

A stock 8800 GTX is rated @ 155 W. So your figures would be roughly correct for the full system load for 1 card. :)

I'd closely agree with Random Guy on performance, around GTX 285/HD4890. :)

I meant a new single card will consume a lot less power.

8800 GTX SLI = GTX 280/HD4870 = (as above)

A single 8800GTX was only a little behind a 4850 so I'd guess SLI 8800GTX would be better than a single 4870? I guess it depends how well they scale in SLI. My answer also factored in what would be a sensible upgrade. There would be no point in buying a GTX 280/4870 unless he was getting it for very cheap.

Yeah, the 280 looks to be quite a close equivalent, though no higher than that, possibly slightly under actually, to that of something like an overclocked 260.
