Hey all, dont know if it should be just in this section but anyway:

Recently installed Vista but also since doing that I have put back in my Pinnacle TV Tuner PCI Tuner card and my PCIE Adaptec Raid Card, now since then I can no longer restart the computer or let it go to sleep, because when I turn it back on the Speaker from the Graphics card goes mental, and its bloody loud.
Now my computer before when you turned it off always gave a split seconds whine from that speaker before turning off.
I know the obvious thing would be to take out the two new cards ive put in and see what happens just thought I would ask here first because all the cards work fine when the computer is running so not sure what the problem is.
Any Help appreciated please!

The reason it whines when you shut off is the power is cut to the card slightly before the card switches off which signals insufficient power and the siren goes off.

Therefore, logically, if you have added two more cards and the siren is going off all the time, that means your GTX is getting insufficent power.

Solutions:

1. Remove extra cards.
2. Buy bigger PSU.

Has your mobo got a 4 pin power connector for supplying additional power to the pci-e slots?

If so, make sure you have it connected.

tbh the 750w psu should be enough.

I only have a 480w psu running 4 hardrives, a quad core, 2 optical, 2 pci cards and my gts g92.

kk ill have a look at the 4pin power connector tonight, pretty sure ive got something plugged into there though, im sure the one from the PSU is 4pin but im sure its a 6pin on the motherboard though :/

Yeah, there is a 6 or 4 pin square socket near the cpu but between the pci-e slots on my mobo there is a standard 4 pin molex power connector like you connect to your cd drive.

What board is it?

Asus P5K Premium

And yea I remember what your saying now :p will take a look tonight and plug in as necessary lol :p

Just got home and checked it, the P5K Premium Does not have a 4 Pin Molex Connector on the motherboard :-(

Grrr does this mean a new motherboard then? best not ive just bloody bought Vista OEM lol :/

It's down to how the mainboard handles power to the pci-e slot and/or the psu's style of power delivery.

I don't suffer from screeching on power down on my p35 board but do on my 780i

Find the offending piece of hardware and see if there is an update for that card's firmware or the mainboard bios, it can sort it out.

I don't any screeching on power down with my 780i motherboard (or my 680i) using an Enermax Infiniti 720watt PSU,,,(with Single card or SLI)

(but i did get screeching on power down when my 8800gtx was in my shuttle SN26P...)
