8800GTX Squealing

Sometimes my card likes to squeal when im in a certain part of the game for some reason. Is this something to worry about? Should I get it exchanged?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the 8800GTX squeal when it's not got enough power?

If the power was too low it would squeal as soon as you hit the power button.

Does it only do it in one part of the game or is it random while you are playing the game?

When you say squeal do you mean like a loud beep from a system speaker, or more of a hissy, fairly quiet electronic kind of noise?

If it's the latter you have nothing to worry about - it's just the capacitors or something.

It only does it in certain parts of games (when I can hear it anyway). For example when im in the menu part of EVE online, just before you get in, it squeals then. Or when im in the options menu of STALKER.

Edit - Yes it is the hissing squealing sort of sound, I get kinda worried that something is gonna blow when that happens

Hissing noise is normal, does it with my GT and did with my GTS 640.

Mine does that too. I got my first GTX replaced cause of the noise but the new one did it too. Like Dingleberry said it's a capacitor AFAIK

Don't worry about it then.

Seems to happen particularly at low resolutions for some reason - like when you start a game for the first time and it's set a 800x600.

Mine's an OCUK OEM and makes the same noise.

Not easy to see from peoples sigs, is it just the OEM's that seem to make the noisen or is all GTX's?

Its all GTX's, GT's, GTS's, well I dunno if its all, but my GT makes it and my GTS 640 made it.

used to get this quite a lot on my old 640 gts, and on ocassions my new one does it as well, pretty weird when you first hear it makes you think your card is about to go boom

Yeap my GTX does it too, if your in a game menu or something with like 999 fps it will squeal like mad. It doesn't really bother me now though I'm used to it.

Mine did too. Only quietly when i ran the fluffy cube on ATiTool.

Nothing to worry about.

My x1900xt does it too, especially when in game menus.
