8800gtx temps ?

I just tried the ATi_tool max core/mem tests, and after about 6 'heating up' sessions, it reached 87c max. My x1900XT used to reach 90c with the stock cooler when gaming, so I'm not too worried by 87c. I'll try some NWN2, and see how it goes.

I don't have a low front intake fan fitted in my case, although there's space for a 120mm fan there. I have a couple of fans lying around, so I'll fit one and remove a back expansion plate below the card.

As someone posted in another thread, these cards cut your case in half, so you need extra airflow beneath the card.

I fitted a 60mm fan mounted on two of the pci slot 'blanks'. Basically I bent them backwards to form a reverse L and then cable tied the fan to this makeshift bracket. It runs quiet and cools the area around the GFX card from 53 to 41.
 
Just pulled this off nvidia's forums, thought it might put people who are getting high temps at ease a little,

"Thanks for the replies. Couldn't get on the forums at all yesterday.

finally got in touch with BFG yesterday and got the official response:

"Yes, this is normal and actually pretty good. Most of the test we have done
here have been with the card running at 90 degrees under load. I believe that
the Nnvidia alarm is set to go off somewhere around 130 degrees. The card can
definitely handle the heat as long as your case/CPU have enough air moving
around as well.

yup mines around the same temps 61-63 idle and around 70 under full load after running fear for a couple of hours and thats at 630/2000 , not that it needs any overclocking just can't bloody help myself . heh :D
 
I now set the fan to 100% before gaming, it keeps my load temps around 75c (I hit 89c on auto).

I also reduced the 2D gpu speed to 400Mhz using ATi tool, which keeps my idle temp down, even with the fan on auto (silent).

I don't see why they use the same default 2D and 3D clock speeds, considering how much power and heat the gpu uses/creates. Maybe it's just not a good idea to have the gpu suddenly changing speeds?
 
I changed the 120mmfan i had next to it around so that it blows cold air across my 8800gtx , idles @ 57degrees and goes up to 64degrees on load (Stock)

The temps are normal, no need to set the fan speed any higher. The GPUs are tested to run at slightly above stock speeds over 100c. Its down to how the product is manufactured as to its heat tolerances.

For example older CPUs would have kicked the bucket over 70c, but the P4s were designed to go much higher and they would run normally at 70c+.

Worrying about temps means you just won't enjoy your gaming as much. Just let the GPU do it's job, so you can do your job (playing games).
