What AA settings do you use? I've got Nhancer on...but I may just set one 8* or something. I'm not sure about the differences between transparency AA and normal. I do know that supersampling is a lot more GPU intensive that multi or other such modes.

Depends entirely on the game. If it's supported, I usually try to use the new CSAA modes. I always use transparency MS, too.

If you select 8 or 16 AA in the Nvidia control panel it automatically uses CSAA. I find 8x CSAA an excellent choice, or 16 CSAA for older or less demanding games
This was never possible before. For reference, I use a GTX at 1280*1024 and Im very satisfied - my min framerates are generally over 30 even in demanding scenarios. Other users obviously have different preferences. I had intended to get a bigger monitor, so I bought the GTX. However it turns out Im happy with things as they are.
Google it for the techy details, or look for one of the original 8800 reviews, AA details are all in there.

Christ I thought I was spoiled when I went to 1024*768! That was a long time ago. Can't really afford it at the moment, or at least I've earmarked the money for other things.
Besides, I don't game as much over the summer, it would be a bit of a waste.
