8800GTX vs HD4870

Is there a big difference in the two cards - just bought one 2nd hand of the marketplace and, instead of puting it into my dads rig was thinking of keeping it for myself ?

I have to upgrade his systenm next week so bought the parts to do the job but giving him my parts is an option and I keep these ones.

Trouble is its in a water cooled rig just now and not sure that I can be bothered with the hassle.

Is there a good cooler for the 8800 GTX if I took it out of mine and put it in his?

The 4870 is a lot faster than your current 8800GTX so it will be a nice upgrade.

There's a few decent ones around search for my posts in the members mart i've got one for sale in there if you need one.

Heatsink, Fan, Controller.

Definately worth keeping as has been said, the 4870 is about 30% average faster

I have gone and ordered that cooler but the 8800 GTX isn't on the compatability list - is it the same as an 8800 GTS ?

That cooler wont fit!

I ordered last week for mine!

Also dont use the thermal pads that come with it on your standard cooler!

I done this and it creates a gap between GPU and cooler... Idle was 110C

Removed them and used AC5 instead and GPU under load is now 60C and 45 idle!

Ive still got this cooler for sale if anyone needs it used it on my 8800gtx and it worked perfect. Load temps never moved about 60 degrees
