hi im having a snag with my 8800gtx and 3dmark06 my fps seem to be half what i had previously before i changed my motherboard ram and processor yet in games like X3 im seeing great graphics and no slow down

any help plz

system e6300 overclocked to 3.1 ghz on a p5b delux
ram corsair 6400 ram
8800gtx
zalman 7700 cu cpu cooler

im seeing idle temps around 37 and load of 53 and the gpu idle of 57

fsb 443
cpu volts of 1.265

Is the slow down in the CPU test on 3Dmark?

If it is, I had the same issue when I clocked my board past 360 FSB. I sorted it by adding more vCore (1.5v)

Also don't use cpuz for getting the vcore if you have a p5b it seems to give false results. I checked my vcore in the bios & even though its set top 1.55v its actually at 1.5v - for some reason its .05v out

didnt see it on the cpu test i was seeing around half of my frame rates on the first test which is graphical i think not cpu

ive tried the vcore no joy

could it be the PSU i didnt have any probs on old motherboard its a 535 bbut im awaiting a 620 corsair modular should arrive tommorow

If you can try 3dMark 05... 06 has a dodgy cpu test anyway, its always really slow, but its much more noticable with 3dMark 05

@ 3.2 I was getting 4-6 fps on the 3dMark05 cpu test

@ 3.6 I was getting 0-1 fps (until I changed my vCore)

I also suffered a poorer score on the 3d tests.

If you do decide to up the vCore watch the temps.

I know but when I was messing around with my system it effected both, but under 3dMark05 it was really noticable as the cpu test was really poor.

what vcore are you running on now... from the bios?

i have it at 1.265

and ive tried it a 1.5 and the result is the same i think its a problem relating to 3dmark and the 8800gtx or a power elated problem but its not apparent in games i play

fair enough, just to let you know I had to go to 1.55v before it worked for me.

Btw what are you scoring in 3dMark 06?

OK,

I had the same problem. 3dMark scores halving when going from 3.0 to 3.2 on a P5B-d with a 6300. The problem is that as you increase the FSB by clocking the CPU, you find that the PCI-e cannot keep up in 16x and thus reverts to 1x. This cripples your card and knocks gaming/3dmark heavily.

So what you have to do is take the Southbridge voltage off auto and crank it up a bit. This gives PCI-e a bit more juice and its happy running at 16x again.

Hope this helps

Download CPUZ to find out what you pci-e link bandwith is running at.

If its at x1 then go into your bios and change the pci-e frequency from 100mhz to 110mhz.

Now reboot and fire up CPUZ, and you should find the boards pci-e link bandwith is back at x16.

sorry, that worked for me.

The drop in graphics performance does sound like a pci-e prob though. CPU-z will tell you if that's that case or not (mainboard tab, Graphic Interface box at bottom should read x16)
