Hi all, my GTX is playing up..get read lines everywhere even at the BIOS.

Googled it and some chinese guy suggested cooking the card then letting it cool.

Thought ah well its broke may as well... It worked! Card worked fine for a month.

Then same again so i cooked it again and again it fixed it.

But it seems to be hapening more and more often!

As it happened the first time once i got it working i put clocks back to slightly below stock and fan on 100%

So was thinking of upgrading... my screen is 22" i have a Quad core running at 3.2GHZ

is the new ATI 5870 overkill? would prefer not to waste the cash if its pointless or will bottleneck...

Thanks guys...

Most games i play are FPS so crysis, warfare2, dragon rising etc..

Just reading a few posts seems i can get 5850 and OC to 5870...

sounds best option.

My 8800GTX was doing exactly the same thing, never knew about the 'baking it' trick so I bought the XFX 5850.

Man, I wish I hadn't now! You been reading all the problems with the boot issues? I am suffering from them too.

I am waiting to see if there is going to be a resolution to fix it before I decide what to do. If I didn't have a LAN party next weekend it would've been RMA'd by now lol :P

Would have thought a 5770 would suffice for that res(assuming 1680X1050)and can be had for £119.99. Could you add another 5770 later for Xfire? A 4890 will also suffice and can be had for around £140.:)

Added: I don't think 5850\5870 are good value right now.

at current prices i'd stay away from the 5850's/5870's. VFM just isn't there at them moment. Even if they are quality cards

as ^ has said two 5770's are amazing performance for such a cheap card.
that's if you can crossfire

5850's are silly money due to the short supply, so a 5770 would be a good option. Do you think you could live with the 8800 till after xmas? By then the 5850 may be in greater supply and the price might come down.

Hmmm, sadly i have a non SLI/CF board - IP35

I think ill keep cooking the card untill it wont come up at all!

See what happens

Thanks guys saved me a few $$$ just need to loose the urge now!

5800s are pretty poor value, let's hope they sort this out by the end of the year.

it's TSMC everyone is waiting on. Hopefully they'll have resolved there ASIC’s and got everything working.

I know sapphire have back orders of over 30k units. god knows how many the others are waiting on
