Hi,

I have the XFX 8800 Ultra xxx edition, i removed the stock cooler and replaced it with the Danger Den Full coverage block. I used Artic Silver on all the required chips and the thermal pads on the other ones it told me too. Also downloaded the latest drivers and it is on a newly built pc with XP SP2.

I can get into any game and set up the required graphic settings. But once i start playing the first few mins it looks perfect with no issues. Then it just goes blank and i cannot do anything.

Any one know what may be causing this?

Did you try the card with the stock cooler to confirm it was working fine before modding?

What PSU have you got?

Tried the card but never pushed it with a game. I am using the Corsair 620. The only thing i can think of is the pump on the water cooling system is only 84lph so i have a new one on order from DDen the DD12V-D5 Pump.

Can you monitor the temperature ?

Rivatuner can log the temperature when running a game, maybe the pump is indeed not powerful enough but that could also mean the CPU isn't cooled enough, what is the CPU temp under load?

I have just downloaded Rivatuner so when i get home from work i will get some temp readings.

I have a Tai-Chi watercooled case an with the 1/4" unit that came with it i added the following.

DD - 8800 GTX Options: Fitting Size: 1/2 OD for 1/2 ID Tubing

Black Ice GTX240 Options: Fitting Size: 1/2 OD for 1/2 ID Tubing
Tygon 3603 Tubing 1/2" ID 3/4" OD
FluidXP+ EXT Blood Red

So on sat I have ordered
DD12V-D5 Pump Variable Speed Options: Fitting Size: 1/2" OD Fittings (For 1/2" ID Tubing) - to replace the crap pump that came with the case.

Tygon 3603 Tubing 1/2" ID 3/4" OD - to replace all 1/4" Tubing

Black Ice GTX120 - to replace the thermaltake radiator with 1/4" connections

Copper TDX Block for Intel 775 Processors - to replace the 1/4" fitting cpu water block that came with the case.

Danger Den Bay Reservoir High-Density Polyethylene - to replace the 1/4" fitting res that came with the case.

Run some 3DMark 06 and see what happens.

Have you tried the games with lowest settings and lowest resolutions etc etc?

Do you get artifacting before the card dies, when running a game?

Also, check the temperatures you're getting when running a 3D application and post back.

no artifacts etc just runs fine one minute then straight to a black screen.

i will run tests later tonight and post back the temps etc.

i have a 120mm Fan blowing air into the case from the bottom and another 120mm blowing the hot air out at the top.

I did not get a chance to test the pc last night as i had visitors so will get it tested tonight.

Yeah mansizetissue it plays fine one minute then just goes black with no warning and the odd time it looks lighter and then totally black the next.

ran riva and core temps were at 67c idle and when i started up 3dmark they started to climb. I ran the first few test perfectly then it froze completely. I think its the pump as the tygon/pump/ and res were very hot to touch and only after 5 mins or so.

So the pc will stay off until the DDen stuff arrives this week.

Yep, it looks like the pump can't circulate the water fast enough.

Or maybe a kink in the tubing somewhere limiting the airflow or a bad contact between waterblock and videocard?

yep, so hopefully i have not fried the card. The pc was never run hard as it kept freezing so i would expect that 8800Ultra to be able to take so high temps and be okay.

And as i type the stuff from DDen has just arrived so i will put it into my case tonight and see if it sorts out the problem. Nice and fast delivery from the US ordered sat and here today, An post who are the Irish postal service would have taken 6 months to deliver that.

Put the new pump etc in and it works a lot better now, idle at 33c and around 55c under load. I did get a nv4_disp error but went into safe mode removed thenvidia drivers and installed another version and it works great now.

Stalker was the onle game to give me a problem but it's most likely its cr@p coding so will re-install it.

yep thank god, now i have to start ocing the system.

and thanks guys for all the help.
