888 astra

Well. Just that a local chap is interested in swapping his for my evo 8. plus some money my way. I checked pistonheads there and it does seem they are worth 10k. But it just doesnt add up in my head for what essentially is a 5 year old astra thats lowered and remapped ?
for reference mine is the lighter colour evo here

Are they reliable, do they need looking after, what mpg would they get. Im interested in it cause its very clean car, and shifts rightly having drove it and its so different to the usual golfs or audis etc

Special edition SRI CDTI 150 tuned by 888 - the people who ran the BTCC racing team for vauxhall.

They were also the VXR Performance centre for a while - the authorised official vauxhall tuner.

The Took the 150bhp 1.9 CDTI engine and remapped it to 200bhp. Please note however the Astra's ECU is not capable of holding two maps so its not "switchable" in the true sense. All they did was resstrict the maximum ammount of throttle without the sport button pressed to 60 % or something similar, and then allow 100 % of throttle when you press the sport button.

They were all fitted with various limited bits and pieces as listed in the advert, and sold in limited numbers with number plaques on each one, and only sold from one dealer.

Still kept the original vauxhall warranty.

That particular interior doesn't look factory, it looks like some other vauxhall interiors i've seen done by members of Astra Owners network

http://www.astraownersnetwork.co.uk/forum.php

Might be worth registering on there and see if anybody knows the car.

At the end of the day however, its an Astra SRI with some stick on bits and pieces. Its some well thought out bits and pieces, but still not faster than a VXR. And not hugely more economical either.

Well, the 888 series, the old coupe 888's as well, tend to keep their value well, because of the fact that there were only 100 made.

I know what you mean about the fact that it is a 5 year old astra.

Remember just because it's being advertised on PH for £10k doesn't mean it's worth £10k. it's worth what someone will pay.

It looks like a 4 year old Astra to me, it's a 56 plate, 56 plate is September 2006-February 2007.

It doesn't suddenly become a year older on January 1st :p

Some in the tuning industry are less than complimentary about the way these were tuned.

I'm not going to go into any more detail as i don't know enough to know if what i was told was somebody peddling BS or telling the truth.

Reliable ? well not especially it's a vauxhall at the end of the day. Real world MPG - no idea. If you know the bloke ask him ?

they were built in limited numbers and hold a bit of a cult status among astra owners. Its worth what people will pay at the end of the day.

What people say they will pay on an owners forum and what its worth in the real world is another matter however.

This is the sort of money a normal CDTI 1.9 150bhp would be worth.

Its obviously going to be worth a bit more. How much more with only 100 built is up for debate.

I was just offered it its not that i went seeking it. Would do a change as im tempted to build a track car and something diesel for the road would be good.
For the record that one i linked to is not the actual car, its just an example.

ah nevermind then.

See the figure evo got when they tested it. Book figure is 50mpg so average of 40 seems plausible.

No idea as to value.

If normal SRI is worth £7k to £7.5k then i'd guess maybe around £8.5k ? Think 10k is a tad too much. Bit difficult to put a specific value on it with it being rare however.

Other cars i have been offered is a dc5 that is clean plus 2k my way. Or a 375bhp 2007 st focus graham goode demo car. If i take the astra i will have it for 9k

For my part, I find that all the Vauxhall Astras (5 of them!)I have owned have been the most reliable cars that I have driven :)

did you start messing around and tuning them to produce an extra 33 % more power though ?

In my experience this is when vauxhalls start falling apart.

I was simply pointing out that if you want to get rid of the Evo and get a diesel, there are other options out there other than what you have been offered

I was going to mention that, all my vauxhall have had petrol engines. I don't know much about the Fiat unit that is used in the diesel cars.
