8Gb 9xx series when?

Bring on the Maxwell Titans after xmas.

The above may hold up putting 8gb on the 9 series.

The 256bit bus could also cause problems @4K with multiple cards for 8gb as well.

Who cares - bring on the Titans :p:D:p

I think after xmas I have got some serious building to do.:D

You never know the Titans could come with 16gb of vram just to keep the console ports in their place.

It will also keep the people who will moan about the likely price very happy, win win all round.:D

Gm200 will be awesome, but I agree with Kaap, Nvidia will definitely be looking to extend the Titan blood line.

That and the Classified is due in 6 weeks, you won't see 8GB 980s this year. I bet my house on it

I reckon they will show up sooner or later, the 970 only has half of it's chips fitted as standard like the 2GB 670 did so to get 8GB they would just need to attach the additional chips like the 4GB 670/760 which wouldn't raise production costs massively. The 980 on the other hand has them all on one side like the 780 did, so for 8GB they would have to use double capacity chips like the 6GB 780's (or find a way to fit them to the back).

Nothing yet, am asking but getting nothing. Maybe will be reserved for new Titan for whenever that might come. :)

The 680s with 4GB came at quite a premium initially so they could be well over £100 extra if NVIDIA follow suit on overpricing for people who want their SLI setup to be more future proof.

I know it's silly, but I am a little worried if 4GB will be sufficient for 2 years @1080p when we have reports of games needing more already. (Evil Within, Shadow of Mordor).

Not sure if I should hold off for an 8GB version or just dive in and get the 970 now. An 8GB one would mean in the future I can just go SLI instead of upgrading to a new GPU. Then again, new GPU may be best anyway with the new architecture.

The reason the 256bit bus isn't gimping the 970/980 is due to their hardware memory compression which Nvidia claim make their 224GB/s bandwidth an effective 300GB/s. This next bit isn't confirmed by any means, but one would assume an obvious side effect of that compression is they can store more than 4GB in RAM, and assuming that Nvidia are telling the truth about the compression ratio, the 970/980 should be able to hold anything up to 5.5GB in RAM.

i've got to buy something monday .... my 7990 blew last night and the 7970 doesn't work either.

you dont need 8GB anyway............. and 4K is a waste of time for at least another 2 years..........via HD TV that is

without Water the 7990 was DOOMed anyway, it took too much aggro to get it running right...... a good learning curve though

I got this from guru3d.. "According to OCUK the GTX 970 and GTX 980 with 8GB models are expected somewhere between November and December. They did not comment on GM204 performance, but did mention that GTX 980 replaces GTX 780, not GTX 780 Ti (ooh shocking news)" old source of course.

i think they will have probably dropped the idea of 8gb cards and like you say make them a feature of the new titan

It doesn't matter if Nvidia want to save 8GB for reference Titan II or not, the is nothing stopping manufacturers from making 8GB cards if they wish, it would be especially easy for the GTX970 as all that would need is for them to put twice as many RAM chips on it (the 4GB version is only half loaded).
