I was doing some photoshop work, an 2A0 panel and 300 pixels per inch. Lots of photos and drawings on it.. and I was running out of memory and the pc was slowing down etc..
Is something wrong?

Running 8gb memory, x6 1055t and 3.6 and have a 1gb 4670 if that makes any difference!

I knew it was memory due to the widget thing being at 80-100%
Also its 64bit photoshop and win 7 :)

cheers for any input! xx

you can assign the max ram photoshop can use. When it exceeds that it will move onto a scratch disk, dont set that to a small drive it will eat up small drives space, learnt that when my SSD suddenly starting running out of space lol. If you have a high number for History States that can cause a lot of memory to be used as it saves all those states.

I regularly cap out my 8gb... but then I'm awkward and run Photoshop, WoW, and about 20 tabs of Google Chrome all at once :P

Memory usage while idling with Win 7 is often a bit of a mystery - it has a tendency to pre-allocate memory and fill it with things that you're likely to use. Resource Monitor might give you some hints as to how much is being chewed up in this way, but don't worry too much about it, Windows is smart enough to free that memory again if you need it for something else :)

purge every now and again is my advice. i work mainly with 6000 pixel wide/tall photoshop files and even doing a copy merge uses a tonne of RAM in itself. worth clearing it out every now and again.
