(rig as per sig )

is 8 gb ( 4 x 2gb ) any trickier to o/c than 4gb ( 2 x 2gb ) just moved to Vista Ultimate 64bit and wondered if picking up another set of identical ram would mean I'm more likely to be limited on the o/c front ?

cheers

Hard to say.. You really would need to do some testing... It does place a greater strain on NB and I had some right fun and games getting 8GB stable with x48.

I have said this is many threads.

I need 1.1v NB to get 1600 QP FSB with 8GB (same as 4GB and the Min the NB Voltage can go).

It only needs 1.2v NB to get 2000 QP FSB with 8GB (same for 4GB).

Again depends on your Mobo Chipset, the P45 was made/advertised for up to 16GB.

Filling all the slots sometimes gives problems when overclocking as its easier for the memory controller to access less slots.

can the p35 boards run 8gb ok then

Not sure, down to good sample Mobo and Memory Choice I guess but would assume it needs more NB Voltage then to run it.

Peeps here have ran 8GB longer than the P45 and X48 have been out but if I was asked by you to get you a Mobo that would run 8GB I would have to choose the P45.

I run 8gb on an x38 with no issues.

Have only changed cpu (e8500 @ 4.5ghz) voltage to 1.32v and DDR2 (OCZ PC8000) voltage to 0.05v over recommended.

Runs very stable with a 474mhz FSB.

just checked the gigabyte site and it says fixed boot lag with 8gb of memory with f4 bios update, well im on f11 so should be ok,as you cant knock the prices of memory these days

What's your memory running at?

400, but the memory has been running at 422 when I had the cpu at 2.8, but burntest starting failing afer about 10hrs, I think it was something todo with the memory, so I put it back to 3.6, but I didnt changed any mem volts or timings when it was at 3.8 so maybe thats why.

Also when I upgraded from 4gb to 8gb, I didnt have to change any volts or timings, it just worked what was kind of nice. All I can say is the ABIT IP35 PRO ROCKS.:D
