Hello all im just wondering how much would it effect my computer performence as regards playing games if i go from 8GB of ram down to 4GB of ram??

Thanks
Tab.

Depends how much of the 8gb you utilise to be honest, but my guess is that you wont notice a difference. What sort of work do you do on your computer?

ah thanks for the reply Beefy , the only reason i asked was because the new temporary motherboard ive got has 4 mem slots but 2 are DDR2 and the other 2 are DDR3 , so wasnt sure if it would let me use 4x DDR2 in the board , i guess i could just try when it comes , but it can use the new Phenom II 6 core chip , i wanted the board so i could carry on using my old anthon x2 6400 , and 800mhz memmory until i can afford a better CPU and Ram.

hey footyfan , well i only really us the comp for playing games and i dont think ive seen a game that needs over 4 gb at the moment but i could be wrong.

I have 6Gb of tri channel ram in my computer, I'm using 1.5gb of it now an I only have the a few internet tabs open and messenger. When playing GTA IV It goes up to 3.5gb so I doubt you'll notice much difference. What sort of games do you play?

DDR2 and DDR3 are different you cant put all your DDR3 into that motherboard, or if you had all DDR2 you can't do that either. i doubt you'll see much difference with just 4GB compared to your usual 8GB.

I went from 8gb to 4gb and felt no difference at all. In fact I have been running 2gb for a few weeks and not felt it, haven't been running any particularly intensive games mind.

What I reccomend is taking 4Gb out for a while and seeing if you notice the difference, and if you do, how significant is it?

If you do notice a massive difference, then put the RAM back in.

If you don't notice a difference, then do whatever you want to do with the RAM :)

As said, for gaming you will see no difference! 4GB is more than adequate for any game.
The max RAM usage I've had in any game is 3.8GB, but also run a lot of background programs so you should defo be fine with 4GB.

Depends what you use it for. Wouldnt go back to 4Gb here due to doing lots of video editing. But for everything else its overkill imo
