I`m thinking of upgrading my memory to Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2GB) x2 so I will have 8GB

But do you think it will work with my mobo?
Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680 (Socket 775)

I have updated my Bios to the latest version (1503)
I have read the manual and it says the mobo supports up to 8GB, but i would like to be sure.
Thanks PP

Any particular reason why you feel the need for more than 4GB Ram? To be honest unless you do a lot of heavy Design or 3D work I really dont see the need for that much ram

It should be fine with your mobo.

I certainly don't need 3/4GB of RAM, but because it's soo cheap nowadays it's prob worth getting some and sticking it in later (or selling it on later ;))

But is it? With the price of DDR2 dropping like a stone by the time you come to replace your 8GB of pointless DDR2 for some DDR3 it will be worth pennies...

2GB or 4GB is pretty much maximum you will need

Current Mobo's although support 8GB strain from 4GB, 8GB is doable but expect to need to up NB and Memory voltage to carry 4 sticks esp if 2GB each.

The Striker Extreme and the newer Striker II Formula (owned both) are crap IMO and I feel next gen will cope better with 4-8GB.

The Asus 790I Ultra looks promising on DDR3.

Thats basic Memory, and you cant compair DDR2 Timings to DDR3, same as DDR1.

You can google a review on some high end Corsair, think its 1800mhz or 2000mhz, it has better Timings and as you really have no need to run the FSB and Memory at same speed in real use you set the Memory to the normal 1/2 of the Quad Pumped FSB.

So 1333FSB+667mhz Memory all the way upto peeps on high OC'd 2400FSB+1200mhz Memory.

The Corsair was shown to run extremely Tight Timings bellow and upto 1600mhz. :)

And yes the price of DDR3 is too fall soon.

Pure example, this Normal 1600mhz Corsair is CAS 7-7-7-20, thats far better than the above OCZ 1333mhz you posted, and of the top of my head at 1600mhz it ran 4:4:4:12 (not saying its same Memory I just used as example).
