Has anyone actually got 8gb of RAM running stable? Ive not been able to any my local computer shop guy reckons it isnt possible without spending 100's on the RAM! Just wondering if anyone had 8gb actually working!

The guy in your local PC shop is an idiot.

I had 8Gb of fairly cheap G.Skill in an X38 mobo and it worked perfectly even overclocked.

Yes it you get 8GB then use cheap online than local shop - I got 4x2GB OCZ DDR2 for just less than 90quids that so cheap and prefect running all way.

lol... half the forum mate.. your local pc guy is a moron.

Unless I guess you were talking to him about DDR1? A64s didn't like lots of sticks and overclocking but 2GB DDR1 sticks were very rare iirc..

Just to be sure, is this computer shop guy an old man still selling antique hardware? :D

Cause really, getting 8GB stable for DDR2 just involves checking for compatibility with the motherboard, some slight tweaking for both the RAM and Northbridge voltages, and of course running something like Memtest to be sure.

I'm happily running 8GBs of Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R.

8GB Corsair XMS2 DHX 6400C4 working without issue on Gigabyte EX38-DS5. Running the modules at rated 2.1v 4-4-4-12 PL8. I Just needed a little kick on the mch voltage +0.050v. (But that could have been simply to hold 400fsb rarther then due to running 4 dimms)

My local PC shop owner says that he won't ever stock high end peripherals because no one will ever pay over £30 for a mouse or keyboard.

Just because they own a shop does not make them wise.

8GB HyperX on a P5E here, sweet as a nut.

All you have to do is make sure the RAM is on the right voltage, and knock your NB volts up a knotch, jobs a good-un.

8GB G.Skill DDR2 1000Mhz running no problem on my EP45-DS3R

and

8GB OCZ Reaper 800Mhz running no problem on my G33-DS2R.

You need to find a new comp shop :).
