I am going to overclock an i2500k sandy bridge processor with your Hydro50 cooler. Going to go for 4.5-4.8ghz. My question is which memory kit will be faster, since they basically cost the same. My guess is they are probably the same chips, but what is faster.

Vengeance 8gb 1600 8-8-8-24 or
Vengeance 8gb 1866 9-10-9-27 ?

Which kit will be faster?

General consensus is lower timings and that sandy prefers lower frequency so the top kit would be my pick. Having said that the other kit will probably run at those speeds anyhow.

hi

i have the top 8gb c8 kit running with a 2500k - still at stock speed atm.

ram runs at spec on 1.4v stable

have had it at 1833 9,9,9,24 on 1.5 volts iirc..

for the moment im sticking to 1600 at 8,8,8 24

id recommend the above kit, it cost a £5 less and will run at either speed. test it yourself and see what's faster for what you use.

Nope

A friend just got the top kit and tested it both ways.
In Sandra the 1600 kit got like 21000 and the
1866 kit got 24000. So sandy bridge likes speed more.
The cas 8 or cas 9 doesn't seem to matter much.

I always like to get a good balance between frequency and latency so the 1600MHz 8-8-8-24 would get my vote. And probably reliably faster in more situations than the 1866MHz 9-10-9-27

Ive got the Vengeance 8gb 1866 9-10-9-27 benches ok at 1866 but wont cold boot with setting above 1333 on my asus pro using latest beta bios on the mobo.

Have you tried it at 1600 8-8-8-24? Maybe it will cold boot. Some people here say it will actually be faster at 1600 8-8-8-24 and easier on the memory.

Just tried it at 8-8-8-24 at 1600 and it booted ok so did full shut down and it still wont cold boot so ive put it back to 1333.

I wonder if ocuk has trid this ram with the asus and do i need to rma and go for a different brand.
