8K display via HDMI

I'm trying to get an 8K screen on my LG Nano 55". I've tried an old 960, 1070 and the HDMI from my laptop (RTX2070). All of these only allow a 4K native. I bought an 8K HDMI cable and still no change.
The 960 and 1070 have a maximum resolution to support 8K according to nvidia website.
I bought a 3070ti and tested that and that DOES give me an 8K screen through HDMI, surprisingly at 60fps.
I'm not using this set-up for gaming, just a workstation & DAW, so the 3070ti is very much overkill.
Is there another solution to get an 8K desktop on the LG using cheaper/older GPUs? The LG TV only supports HDMI in, no DP. I don't need 60dps either, 30fps is plenty enough for what I need in this set-up.
I've got some GTX 960's (2G & 4G), GTX 1060s and GTX 1070 kicking about. Is there an option to run DP to HDMI and get 8K?
...alternatively, i'm looking to buy an Intel 12900K which supports 8K through DP, which if I can use will save on needing an add-on GPU.

Just done some more looking into this and it seems the HDMI on pre 3xxx cards can only output up to 4K. They spec the cards at 8K resolution, but i'm presuming that it's only DisplayPort that can handle it. Problem is, my TV only has HDMI in (2.1) and not DP.

You could try a display port to HDMI dongle if the card can support that on its ports. I use a 4K version dongle for my VR setup and its great. You can get 8K ones for around £30 if you look.

I had looked at these on a very popular buying site and there was quite a few negative reviews, I might try one though as i'd rather not waste a 3070ti on just desktop duty and see if I can get a spare 960 or 1060 to run it.

3xxx series are HDMI 2.1, and so will do 8K60 over HDMI with a high quality cable.

a 960 nor 1070 can.

I bougth a 3070ti to try it out, I got 8K 60fps through it's HDMI. I am a bit reluctant to use a £1100 gpu just for desktop work. The 960 and 1060 do have a max resolution of 8K, but I think it's solely through DisplayPort. If I can use an adapter cable from DP to HDMI, then that's ideal...or even better if I can use the iGPU on the Intel 12900k.

As it’s a new motherboard, there’s a good chance it’ll be HDMI 2.1

Which motherboard do you have?

did you try CRU on the 2070S with those settings as Linus managed 8K@30 on a 2080Ti?

The 2070 is on my laptop, i've got some old 960s, 1060s & a 1070. I just thought the HDMI 2.0 would flatly refuse 8K, I will try it tonight now I know it's been done with a 1080ti. 30fps 8K is plenty enough.

Well, finally got round to having a play with CRU and it refuses to allow an 8K resolution (7680x4320), it just reds the figures and greys the OK. So, looking around other forums and one chap has got 8K on his 1030! So, I went back into nvidia settings and in the 'PC' section is 8K! Never noticed it before, just looked at the top figures in 'HDTV' listings. Anyhow, I have now got 8K 30fps from a 1060. I might try my luck with a 960 later ;)

Op, I think 8k is only possible on the 2.0 standard with hdr off and you need to set custom Res for 30 fps

I haven't done any custom res settings. I couldn't get CRU to accept 8K at all, I don't know the technicalities of screen timings etc. I just read in a forum that 8K was available under the 'PC' settings in the nvidia menu, I had only looked in the first settings,'HDTV'. If I remember you can select 24,25 or 30hz and that's ideal for what I need. It means now I can dump the 3070ti into my gaming rig and repurpose my 1080ti.
HDR in this instance is not needed, i'm only using the screen for DAW and I only recently realised HDR uses a lot more power for some reason.

8K 60 HZ should be possible with HDMI 2.1 GPUs. 8K 30HZ with HDMI 2.0, though you may need to reduce bits per colour and or pixel format to achieve the required bandwidth.
