Hi Guys,

so I thought I would start a thread on how to overclock this. I've managed to get 4.5 @ 1.25 ( just changing Vcore and multiplier to 36 with ram on xmp )

please kindly share your settings and results
 
That's a pretty good result at that voltage.

I should be receiving my kit tomorrow.

How are the temperatures at that speed?

I will be using my own custom loop in the end but the case isn't finished yet so I'm using the supplied cooler initially. I've never used an all in one cooler before so I'm interested in its performance, hope it's not too good or I might regret the money I just spent on my existing system.
 
Good to see it was easy to get 4.5 have had a few problems with it including having to rma the mb but all up and running now :)
 
Not sure my stress test is the best but it does max out all 12 threads at 100%. I've been running Einstein@BOINC. It ran fine for 24 hours at 4.37Ghz using a Vcore of just 1.2V. 4.5Ghz booted at 1.2V but fell over within 30 mins. Vcore of 1.22 had the same results but I've been running now for 90 mins with Vcore of 1.24V. Max temp seen on any core so far 62degC.
 
Still learning the system myself. I've been setting between 4.25 - 4.5 GHZ on the CPU and voltages from 1.25 - 1.275 and so far I've only had one instance when the BIOS prompted for a reset when rebooting. Ultimately when I've got the cooling sorted I'll try to lower the voltage some more.

What I've done today is swap out the supplied fans for two SP120 high performance fans on the 240mm rad. Then between the BIOS setting for fan speed and a resistor on each fan I've got the range set from ~800 RPM to 1500 RPM at 100% load which is about as loud as I'd like the fans to get.

The biggest difference I've noticed between the i7-5830K and my previous i5-3570K is that the I7 temps get high quite quickly then as the fans speed up the temp stabilizes. I'm guessing by using the standard heat paste for a quick build it's not transferring the heat as good as it could. Plus I can see if the fancy stuff actually makes any difference when I apply it.

I did also de-lid my i5 which did make a noticeable difference to hottest core. The 5830K seems more even from the temps I'm seeing on mine currently.

I'm nowhere near the i5-3570K for efficiency yet as that little chip was running 1.18v at 4.5GHz and stayed in the 40s on air even with 100% load.

Which BIOS are you guys running? Are you on F1 or F2f Beta?

The supplied fans are loud at full whack, but I've got all my fans plugged into a fan controller so I can control each one individually. Very impressed with the AIO so far. Current ambient room temp is 22-24C, temps are around 25-29!

I've got it rock-solid at the guaranteed OC of 4.125GHz using 8Pack's settings, but at the moment it keeps hanging up at 4.25. Not getting a BSOD, because it's hanging and I have to hit the reset button.

@Faceman - are you still having read/write issues with the SSD?

I've stuck to the F1 BIOS. Wasn't sure the beta offered anything useful. Are those 25-29 at 100% CPU load? If so that's way better than I've been getting even when only applying a mild OC.
 
A later STABLE BIOS I might put in but unless a Beta claims to fix an issue I'm having I don't want to take the risk. I'm also quite content with what I have as it seems stable at 4.5 Ghz on a 1.24 Vcore :)
 
I wish! No, it's 25-29 at idle/general browsing. Under full load it hits 55-60. If I max out the fans on my controller, it does run even cooler, but it's rather loud.

@picnic - yeah I don't trust beta versions entirely, so I'll probably stick with what I've got. 6-cores @ 4.125 with hyperthreading has got to be better than 4 @ 4.2. Bear in mind I don't just game, I do CAD and rendering as well.

Oh and my sig is out of date, but it'll get changed soon enough!
 
That's an amazing 3570K then as mine hits around 60 at 100% load. That's running 4.3Ghz @ 1.25v with a Corsair H80i AIO.

I'm nowhere near the i5-3570K for efficiency yet as that little chip was running 1.18v at 4.5GHz and stayed in the 40s on air even with 100% load.
 
Yeah, tonight after work I'm going to mess around with some settings and see what happens. My gut says that my chip needs more Vcore to hit 4.25 but I could be wrong. It may be that I need 1.26 Vcore, not 1.25

If I end up stuck with 4.125, I'll still be happy because it's still a considerable OC.

AS I mainly game I was trying 4.125, 4.375 & 4.5 and it wasn't really making much difference beyond ~4.2 so I'm staying around there and will try to back down the voltage to reduce the heat and fan speed.

Quick question When I plug either the pump or fans in the CPU_FAN header all I get is max fan/pump speed. Is that the case with everyone else?

The BIOS settings don't make any difference to the speed. All the other CPU_OPT & SYS headers do change the speed/voltage.

Yes it was quite a decision in the end to switch from my trusty i5 which has served me well for the last 3 years. I'm reluctant to let it go as well so I may re purpose in it a NAS/media server project.
 
Yeah, my pump speed is constant 1800rpm when plugged into the CPU fan header.

If I can hit 4.2, I'll be very happy as that's what my i5 ran at. Like you, I'm considering using it for a media centre/server.
 
hi my M.2 runs at full speed, turns out AS SSD is faulty. anyone managed 4.6? mines is stablish at 1.28 but not stable even at 1.3 maybe i need to touch other settings
 
I'm staying at 4.250 GHz @ 1.18v for now as I've achieved some targets I was aiming for. Happy coincidence that my i5 was running at that voltage too.

I re-applied the Grizzly using the more common rice size blob though it was more like a large long grain size to match the shape of the cores under the IHS!

Bench marking in AIDA64 lowered temps to an average 55 Dec with 61 DegC spikes. That's was an approx. 8-10 Degc drop from the original TIM material.

Probably more important to me though was achieving an almost constant 75fps (capped) in FO4 @ 3440 x 1440 even in the infamous Boston downtown, sensible temps ~45DegC and a barely audible 1047RPM on my twin SP120 CPU rad fans.

Here is a run from Firestrike for comparison but I think I was just hitting the 100 fps cap with my monitor becasue I forgot to turn off forced V-Sync.

What graphics setup are you running - single GPU or SLI/Xfire?

Edit: didn't read the firestrike info. That's basically the same setup as me. I'm looking good for Xmas then, when I get my new monitor!
