specs:
8086k stock or 5.0ghz
Gigabyte z390 Auros Pro with wifi on latest bios
This ram: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...4000mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-098-tg.html
850w PSU
Gigabtye Windforce 2080ti (stock)

@8 Pack and others, any suggestions? I was under the impression this memory was tested to run at XMP settings out of the box. With all things being stock and just turning on the XMP profile, the mem won't boot. Currently running mem in banks 2 and 4 for cooler clearance. Having to use jedec settings currently to (16-16-16-39 2T 2400mhz) get it to work.

The CPU is fine at 5gh or stock or anything in between. No issues.

I'm using this guide as a reference: https://overclocking.guide/gigabyte-z370-overclocking-coffee-lake/ so it's something repeatable.

So I've been reading a lot of an doing some more testing. I got the mem to run at 14-14-14-31 3200mhz (the same kit being advertised with tighter timings at lower bandwidth) and my CPU at 5.0 seems quite stable.

However, my scores in timespy seem quite low. That's with a +150 core and 700+mem on the 2080ti but take a look at the CPU score. That seems about 2k lower than what you'd expect.111

Any ideas? My uncore ratio is at 40x with the CPU is at 50x fyi

Gigabyte!!! Simple as........ Bios is really not good with mems over 3600mhz.

Gaming 7 is now running OK but the rest are not....

Mems will be fine 100% sure of that.

Any idea why my CPU score is so low in Timespy? https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/29429948? What's the best way to show my settings? 1.325vcore with all cores at 5.0ghz. Mem running: 16-16-16-36 (3600mhz)

I ran Pitest and got the exactly 12.80 and my numbers in AIDA64 look solid also compared to the hexus reivew of the 8086k running at 5ghz. Still, my timespy number makes no sense. I even uninstalled the steam version and installed the standalone and still the same.

As for boards, my other 2 options (keeping price in check) would be the ASrock Taichi or MSI Pro Carbon. Ditch the gigabyte?

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...cket-1151-ddr4-atx-motherboard-mb-340-ms.html

I don't know what Asus model would be in that range as Asus seems to have a lot of models. I have no brand pref. Just something that is well built and reliable in my price range.

Happy to post my bios screenshots of what I have configured. Any help would be appreciated. This is frustrating.

I can't find a price for the Gene anywhere? when can I order it?

The Gigabyte is going back. For my use case, I won't go past 1GPU or 2 sticks of RAM. There's a 9900k incoming also so hopefully a good combo. I guess my HafX is overkill for a mATX board...

@8 Pack your RAM that I bought, will that scale upto 5000mhz on this board or is the XMP a limiting factor?

@Nickolp1974 Appreciate the input man!

Updated to the new bios tonight to see if it helps with the mem and score issues. Just lipstick on a pig.

Absolutely no gain and still doesn't play with the mem.

Good news though. If you crash now in the new bios, 2 out 5 times you'll need to do a cmos reset and go through the process again. Luckily I took pics of my old settings.

Hopefully this thread can serve as a warning. Reminder: this is a 200GBP board.

Bought the Z390 Aorus Master motherboard recently and have the exact same issue with the same RAM(16GB 4000mhz 8 pack RAM), won't accept the XMP profile at all or even if I adjust it manually. I have however got it running successfully at 16-16-16-36 3600MHZ 1T 1.35V, this is paired with an 8700k @ 5ghz.

Welcome to the club. I'm running it at 16-16-16-36 also. Can you run a timespy default benchmark for me? i want to see what you are getting on the CPU score? Even with manual timings, the scores are low.

Hopefully @8 Pack and @GIGA-Man can coordinate on this and come back with good answers.

Digging deeper:
Master: compatibility list: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z390-AORUS-MASTER-rev-10#support-doc The memory hasn't been qualified

Pro compatibility list: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z390-AORUS-PRO-WIFI-rev-10#support-doc The memory hasn't been qualified

Would like confirmation if this is being worked and ETA.

Time spy cpu score has some avx. So make sure avx offset is zero when running this to get a true efficient score.

I have brought all this stuff to gigabytes attention. I can't really fix without hours, I don't have of testing and then it won't be as simple as xmp. I need gigabytes support at hq level.

Easier question at this point would be what z390 boards support this ram?

I've just got the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro along with the i9 9990k and this RAM, can't get it to run at 4000hz, currently running at 3600hz at 16 16 16 36, lets hope Gigabyte fix the issue!

haha good luck with that. I've been dealing with this for a while. I posted my manual timings earlier you can copy those and get better performance. If you manage 4000mhz do let me know.
