8Pack Overclocked Bundle - RAM upgrade

Hi
Back in 2018, I purchased this amazing kit (8Pack Extreme Overclocked i7 8086K @5.1Ghz - Elite Tier Gaming Bundle). It was incredibly stable (@5.2Ghz) and still performs really well.
However, since I started developing in Unreal Engine, I soon realized that 16Gig of RAM is nowhere near enough now, so I'm looking to upgrade the memory.
The problem is that I've already tried this a couple of years ago.
I purchased an additional pair of sticks (2x8GB, identical to what came in the bundle) to fill all four slots of the Maximus Hero X, only to find out that it broke the overclocking profile.
The CPU went back to its default 4Ghz and I couldn't get it back up simply because I don't have the knowledge to tinker with voltages and frequencies so I returned the pair for a refund and reloaded the profile from a backup file.
Long story short, a couple of years later I'm at the point where I'm willing to sacrifice the CPU OC for more memory so here is my question.
Can I possibly swap the two sticks of "Team Group 8Pack 16GB" for another two sticks of "Team Group 8Pack 32GB" without destroying the OC profile?
All I know is that adding another two sticks breaks the profile but is it the same if I just swap them for the same model with a larger capacity?

Thanks
Jay

Quite possibly. All I can suggest is that you save the BIOS settings of the overclock profile with your phone. Changing the memory will always have a potential (negative) impact on your overclock.

i had the same issue and thankfully was able to get the same kit i have now as 2x16gb that didn't break my OC. Having a weaker imc really doesn't help when running 4 sticks, but only way to find out is trial and error. i always try and run 2 sticks when i can but in your circumstance thats a little harder. defo use your phone to take pics of your oc settings. even try and set 5.1ghz and see what you get.

Thank you, gentlemen. I have a copy of the OC bios profile but I shall take few photos as well I suppose.
Anyway, I ordered the new combo and will hope for the best..

You ordered the 8Pack kit with the Samsung B-Die, is that right?

If so, it should work fine, because I believe they're all older dies (dual rank). I'm just asking because single rank 16GB sticks need a BIOS update to work properly on some 8th/9th gen boards. A BIOS update would be very risky for your profiles, I'd imagine.

Yes, the original bundle came with: Team Group 8Pack Edition 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit
and I'm going to swap this one for: Team Group 8Pack Edition 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit
I hope it'll work "out of the box". I'm just surprised I can still buy the same thing, five years later :)

Cool. Should be good, then.

The problem with some of the newer sticks is related to this, if you're curious or decide to buy something else later for more capacity.

hmm, interesting.. now I'm tempted to buy another 32GB kit just in case. I intend to keep this rig for another few years. Also, Unreal Engine Editor has some serious memory leak issues though.
Would you happen to know if there is an option to send the "upgraded" bundle (or the whole PC) back to OC_uk to re-tune it if I decide to go for 64 in the future?

If you're thinking of doing it to retain the overclock, I wouldn't. Running 64/128GB of memory (new or old) will be 99% certain to kill your overclock, due to the higher load on the CPU's memory controller.

Possibly. This is the only service I'm aware of:

HOW DOES THE UPGRADE SERVICE WORK?

If you want to upgrade your system during the warranty period, our engineers will do the installation free of charge. You will only be charged for the components and the shipping. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

So.. just to clarify for anyone facing the same issue.
IT WORK RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX and no damage to the OC profile.
My new 32GB sticks turned up today, I swapped them with the old 16 pair and everything is the same (no change to the OC).
Thank you guys for your responses.
Glad it worked for you and just for your future reference totally replacing the RAM is always easier than adding RAM to an existing overclocked system, which is probably why it failed the first time you tried.

4 sticks of RAM puts more strain on the CPU memory controller then 2 sticks. Bear this is in mind if on the off chance you a want to go to 64Gb using the same system.

Interestingly though, most of those Z370/Z390 motherboards worked better with 4 sticks instead of 2 due to the board topology.

Enjoy your new upgrade. ;)
