Over the next 3-4 months, I’m saving to upgrade to X79. I’m looking at getting the following and will be intending to overclock, but will start small and work my way up. The setup I’ve chosen, would it be a good choice of components?
I know the 3820 is not unlocked, but there is still a degree of of overclocking available, I think the multiplier can hit the late 40’s. The RAM is from the QVL and as sad as I am, I’m looking to colour code. Will be using the Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom.
I've chosen the motherboard as it looks like a great board, have also been looking at the Gigabyte x79 UP4 as I know they make great boards as well as having UK RMA.
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail with Dead Space 3 PC Game £249.95
1 x Asus P9X79 Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard £199.99
1 x Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Quad Channel Kit (PVI316G213C1QK) £109.99
Total : £559.93 (includes shipping : FREE).
The overclocking will not be as intense as yours, looking to hit 4.6-4.8 and I’m happy with the RAM @ 2133. Will eventually be looking to go Ivy-E about 12 months after it’s release. Trying to keep it under £600.
