Hi, im looking at buying a Asus HD 7970 DirectCU II TOP and noticed it requires 8pin + 6pin ive looked on my PSU a power and cooling turbo cool 860watt and found 4x6pin but the only 8 pin is for the 12v on the mobo

I did however find a couple of black 2pin plugs, could i use one of these along with a 6pin to make up the 8 ?

all of my recent cards have been single 6pin or dual 6pin so ive never come across this issue before :(

Are these '2pins' attached to the 6 pin (on a little cable)? If so its a 6+2 pin (8 pin).. :)

Not tempted by the extra £25 for the Matrix plat? :)

The PSU isn't the greatest brand...

Really ? i was always led to believe it was a respected brand/psu ?

@ Doomedspeed , ive had a proper inspection as most of the cables where cabled tied together and hidden, so got the snips out and checked the cables, the two pin are indeed on the same cable as the 6pin so looks like im good to go !

as for the maxtrix plat, not really ive already upgraded the cpu/ram/mobo/ssd and storage this month so the wifes not happy, plus i got kids to feed :D

that TOP should be fine at BF4 @ 1080p i assume ? :)

They were pretty great, but don't OCZ own them now?

I don't think they're as good as they once were, but they're far from a poor PSU.
If he's got an older model, it'll be pretty great?

PC Power and Cooling are a high quality brand. People should do their homework before saying they would'nt use it or you need a new psu.

OP, the 2 pin connectors should be attached to the 6 pin pci-e cables but are probably folded back out of the way. Just link it up with the 6 pin and plug it in. It should look like the second piccy here.

Yeah found it thanks pasty , 2 cables had just 6pin and 2 cables had 6pin plus two 2pins connected, but they where hidden behind my mobo as ive never used them , hence my confusion :D

thanks guys :)

yes, and even OCZ's newer models are much better than their older ones
Older OCZ supplies are made by Topower but they are now switching to Fortron who have a much better rep

Topower only made the PowerStream series. FSP have been building psu's for OCZ since the begining and the early ones suffered from high ripple but that's in the past now. Other OEM's for OCZ are HEC (CoreXtreme), Sirtec (ModXstream Pro 500/600/700w, ZS series, Fatal1ty series, Z series 850M), Impervio/Etasis (EliteXstream, Fatal1ty 700w) and Great Wall (ZT series, ZX series).

It's irrelevant though as they are both run as two seperate companies. Hell, Seasonic even make some of PC Power and Coolings psu's.
