8TB Drives from Seagate coming soon. 20TB drives not that far off either

Hopefully we should have some samples of these 8TB drives in the next couple of weeks for us to play with and test. I will post benchmarks when I have them.

Also as soon as I have pricing and a leadtime on when stock will land with me I will let you know in this thread. The product code will be set up shortly.

They have also hinted at 10TB and also a 20TB drive in the pipeline. Just think of the storage opportunities in a 4 Bay NAS server. 80TB of storage. Not sure what you would have to put on it but it would be nice.

Seagate are also Launching some new NAS server Units, 2 Bay, 4Bay and 6Bay desktop units and a 8Bay Rackmount unit. Keep checking the forum for more news on these and product set ups. They did look stylish and compact and the new Seagate OS4 on them is very nice and user friendly.

I had thought about doing a format on it and seeing how long it will take it for that to do. not on my machine but on the test rig. I will post the time if we do it.

We are looking to offer SRS which is the Seagate recovery service. They can get your data back 95% of the time. Will let you know more about that soon as well. Not just for Seagate drives either.

One fact I got from the meeting with Seagate on how a drive is built and how they work. If you were to think how small the block is on a platter to hold a small block of data and then were to unravel a 1tb platter it would be 73miles long. this is from a platter less than 3.5" wide.

here end my useless fact of the day.

As soon as i know more about the 8TB drive I will let you all know. I will check on the warranty of this product and it will be a good indication of the warranty period for the 10 and 20TB drives.
