9/11: the Falling Man

9:00pm - 10:30pm

Channel 4

Of the many terrible, abiding images from the destruction of the World Trade Center on 11 September, one proved so shocking that, after limited publication, it all but vanished. It became known as The Falling Man, a stark picture of a man falling, headfirst, after he had jumped from the burning upper reaches of one of the stricken towers. But, thanks to the efforts of a journalist who refused to join in the condemnation, and who saw the picture as almost a monument to humanity, the equivalent of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, it has achieved a strange, iconic status. This brilliant, often unbearably moving, documentary follows Esquire journalist Tom Junod's efforts to identify the man in the photograph. Junod had been touched by the picture when it was first published, and to him its power remained strong, despite America's tacit, collective decision that it had no place among the heroic images that eventually came to represent that black day and its aftermath.

Is anyone else watchig this.

Watching it, The man who took the photos is trying to justify taking them so much its almost as if he knows hes done a awful thing.

He didn't do an awful thing, he captured an awful moment in history so that we never forget. :(

Alright ladies, no need to ruin the thread ^^

Agreed this it to remeber the 2,986 deaths on 9/11 and the people still dying from breathing in toxic somke etc. Not to debate who should be killed in retaliation, i am as angry about it as anyone but this is neither the time or place to debate it. :)
