why are the 9800GTX+'s more expensive than the normal 9800GTX's?

i thought the +'s were meant to be better? or am i mistaken

they aint the same make for starters, also 10+ in stock, vs 1.

You are correct regarding the + being better, 9800 is just a 8800GTS. nVidia being lame.

Personally I thought the whole 9 series was a joke, with the possible exception of the 9800 GX2. And as for the rebranding, just lol.

same make only makes matters worse, if you check the website:

BFG GeForce 9800 GTX @ £217.36

BFG GeForce 9800 GTX+ @ £146.86
Seems obvious enough. OcUK would have paid a higher wholesale price for the 9800GTX cards as Nvidia and partners were overpricing them. Now that the cards have come to a more reasonable recommended price OcUK was able to get the 9800GTX+ cards at a cheaper wholesale price and so can sell at a cheaper price to the end user also.
These cards are really overpriced now, wouldn't touch them at all tbh.

Can anyone locate any reviews of a 3-way SLI 9800gtx+ setup?

There's this one which includes 2-way.

Seems to stack up pretty well. 3-Way tends to benefit overall smoothness more than raw framerates, though I'd still be interested to see some figures.

It did amuse me that the moment the Leadtek 9800gtx+'s arrived, OCUK instantly dropped the price of their own vanilla ones to match them, to the nearest penny:)

To compete against the slightly better 4850's, the GTX+'s need to be at the same price point (£105-£120).

The GTX+ has a better cooler which may swing it for some people but it is old tech on a 55nm wafer. At £99 it may have fended off the 4850 but alas...
