Hi, Just double checking this rig will be quite suitable for higher end gaming. Have £900 to spend and hope to overclock the cpu to 3.4-3.6ghz.
Note: I do plan on buying a second Radeon for X-fire next month

Any suggestions would be much apprieciated!!

I'm sure you don't need a 700w power supply. I think people will agree with me when I say the Corsair HX520 will suffice.

£176 on a motherboard?! Ouch. Why not look at something a bit cheaper like a x38? With the money you save on the mobo, you could probably get a 1TB hard drive like the very fast Samsung F1.

the reason for the expensive mobo is the Xfire when i get payed again, and from what i hear these are the dogs ********. But i will the the samsung HDD, most likely cough up that little extre from a certain Credit card to fix that ;)

that's sweet man, i'll take the 90 squid saving then, maens i might (just might) be able to squeeze to Xfire now ^_^

Note: to clarify the P5Q will clock the Q6600 like a mother?

That's awesome! You might need that 700w power supply after all.

The Corsair HX620 power supply might only be 620w but they're really, really good and virtually silent. If I'm not mistaken, Seasonic actually makes it and they're considered to be the ultimate in PSUs.

cool, i think i'll have a little read into the HX620, and again sorry for being a total and utter nub (hey, guy's gotta learn) could you clarify what you meant by posting

"1600MHz FSB = 400MHz RAM = PC2-6400"

cheers my man

1600MHz is what they called 'Quad Data Rate'. It's actually a FSB of 400MHz x 4.

400MHz FSB requires PC2-6400 memory. I can't remember how they get to the number 6400 though, sorry :/

EDIT: Found the info! Click

ok, i think i get it. Sure i'll find out more whn it comes to overclocking the machine. But from what i've read the ram / cooler / cpu combo should do the trick

i like those, however i'll probably stick with the x38 mobo, unless there is a massive difference for the extra 70 squids

i've noticed the OCUk Value had x16 on both pci-e slots rather than x8, so i'll have to take a step away from the P45 based board with was suggested earlier in the topic.

yeah i was pretty damned tired last nigth and failed to notice. Silly old me :P

would http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-249-AS be a nice compromise between the 2 boards you suggested? This build is for a friend and he's getting the craps about spending upwards of 900 on his tower now :S so i'm trying to skimp a little, but tbh i think i can talk him around into spending a little extra now to make life easier for him in the future.
