It's finally time to upgrade my 6 year old Q6600. I've put together the following spec but as I've been out of the hardware loop for a while I was looking for a little feedback on whether it seems reasonable and if there are any incompatibilities (will the cooler fit in the case and will the ram fit underneath it for instance?).

(I already have an SSD waiting to go in it too)

1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Dual-X OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Card £209.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £167.99

Looks fairly similar to what I'd spec for myself - forget the wireless card, get a USB one instead. Also the PSU is a bit naff.

Thermal compound isn't really needed either, you should be able to do fine with the heatsink paste.
Better PSU, sligthly worse case but an SSD slotted in which is pretty much a must these days.

Everything will fit ok. I would suggest a better psu though. Something like the Superflower leadex.

1 x SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 650W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £77.99

looks good to me, you can always make little changes here and there that people can debate over, but it would work, put it that way! (i do recommend switching to the superflower psu someone suggested however)

The Ereboss with the black fan looks nicer imo

On its own I think I agree but with the red detailing on the motherboard I think the red one will go well. I didn't even notice that there was a choice of fan colour until you said that either :p

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely get the superflower PSU if that's the recommended one these days.

forget the wireless card, get a USB one instead

What's the main difference between a wifi card and a usb adapter? Is it worth going for one of the more expensive ones? I will be using the PC to stream blu rays, so will the faster/dual band ones make a noticeable difference or would it be a waste of money?

Not really, though I'd just go for a 2133/2400Mhz kit because it's not even that much more than a standard 1600Mhz kit these days - those last TeamGroup sticks would be perfect.
