Hello!

Buying a new rig, mostly for gaming, won't be overclocking unless it isn't too much hassle, want something fast and reliable.

Any glaring errors or recommendations on the following ??

Welcome to the forums, all looks good although if you wish to save a bit of cash you could probably go with the 520w version of that PSU and a 6300 instead of the 6400.

Overclocking the above isn't all that difficult, a lot of people are getting 3ghz or more with the sort of combination you have there. There is a lot more information in the CPU and Overclocking sub-forums so just have a quick read through them if you are at all unsure. :)

Thanks for the welcome. :)

I was a little concerned about the amount of memory on the GFX card. With the 768mb cards about I was wondering if 256mb would be enough for the next couple of years. I have heard BF2 uses loads but I haven't tried it yet so I don't know.

Thanks for the PSU suggestion, I would be safe to go down a notch ? I don't want to take any risks with any of the hardware.

As for the CPU there is less than £20 difference and I am saving around £50 by buying the bundle.

Any more comments would be appreciated.

What resolution does your monitor support? If you are playing at less than 1600x1200 (rough guideline) then 256mb should be absolutely fine, if you spend less on the graphics card just now it is easier to upgrade to a DX10 one later if needed.

The 520w will have more than enough power, Corsair is a good brand and the PSUs are based on the design of the Seasonic M12.

Native Resolution - 1440x900

Looks like I am ok then :)

Thanks for the info, that has saved me £30 on the PSU. I could take the 512MB version of the GFX card for £23.50 more, I think I might just do that now.

Remembered I need a headset too.

Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 is £35 so looks like the money I have saved will go on that. I will buy in 1 hour if nobody else has any observations :D

Thanks very much for your comments.

I'd personally go for another 256mb ram on the graphics anyday, especially for a mere £23.50 extra.

Means your games will look prettier/run smoother for longer, 1440x900 is easier to do with 512mb than 256mb.

I have an 512mb X1900XT and even if i drop some games to 1440x900 its still a bit of a struggle sometimes for intensive games (i.e. Oblivion, CoD2, Titan Quest).

Thanks for the reply. I have made the purchase now and I did go for the 512mb version.

Am I missing any cables ?? Just had a horrible thought that I might need an IDE or SATA cable!

Reading this once again reminds me of the whole situation of the discussion of "256mb vs 512mb graphics card"
Its a load of crap. My 7900gt is flawless at 1920x1200. So some people must make a right bodge of there systems to be struggling enough at 1440x900 to warrant a stronger card.
Seriously.....

FEAR runs fine at 1920x1200 on medium - high settings with 4xAA

I just saw this and since you have already ordered its probably too late - but my very personal view is that the Tuniq is just too damned big!

A word of warning - the Tunq's backplate has a sticky pad which holds it to the motherboard. If you overtighten the the Tuniq screws, then the pad gets really really stuck and you will have the devil of a job ever getting it off again without damaging the back surface of your motherboard. Check around a few forums - the secret to those things seems to be getting the tension on the locking screws to be tight enough without being too tight! Another downside to using a cooler with a back plate is that you have to pull practically your whole PC to pieces to get the motherboard out to remove the backplate if you ever want to swap out the cooler.
