920 v 975

You still need a chip capable of 4000Mhz Uncore which I would've thought is by no means a guarantee even with a 975.

Another myth, i'm afraid. All you have to do is select a lower GT/s and Uncore will then drop. As it happens, i've yet to come across any 975 that wouldn't do well above 4000mhz.
 
The only time you would even want to consider the 975 extreme is when using extreme cooling (ln2,dice,phase change and the like) for 5-6ghzghz speeds.

Personally id go for the 920 and using the saving to get a proper decent water setup, and then overclock the 920 to mid 4ghz region.
 
Although it isn't a breeze getting RAM to run at 2000MHz it is quite straightforward - I have the Gigabyte UD5 and on this board it's simply a case of playing with some voltages and getting it to run stable at BCLK 200 with a 10x RAM Multi, and all other settings required for my 4.2GHz OC. Not easy but it didn't take days of testing either!

As for the OP... Get a 920 D0 chip and then spend what you've saved on some SSD's! (or at least that saving will help on your way to your dream rig). ;)
 
Well tomkat2009 the guys here have pretty much told you the same as we told you in the posts you made at our forum ;) and as i stated in that thread if you don't fancy oc yourself buy one of the excellent bundles from here :)
 
wait for the 6 core 12 threaded monstor to come out if you want 'the best' as that will be EE only if i belive right and get a 920 in the mean time :)
