Morning guys,

I'm sorry if this thread as been covered but I can find if it as.

Two questions really, I was thinking of upgrading my CPU and I posted a thread here bout going to a i7 960 from my 920 and was told its not worth it, now I'm thinking maybe going to a different chip and trying the 3930k, would it be worth it with the cost?

I know you have to change to a new mobo which brings me to my next question, what are the x79 mobo like compared to the x58?

Again it would mean me spending around 700GBP and was wondering would I see the money well spend.

Thanks for your input.

Depends on a lot of things as well as how much kit you will re-use

For gaming, not worth it, stay as you are and go for Ivybridge

but by going x79, you are buying into Intels next performance platform and have an upgrade path. New mobo and cpu now and you will be able to use it with Ivybridge-E at the end of the year..

Or you could just go with ivybridge in April, which if you just game would probably be a better idea, more sata3 ports, pci-e lanes etc

I went for x79, but I want to run a lot of vm's and the 32Gb of RAM as well as the upgrade to IVB-E swung it for me as well as when I specced up a completely new system with high end parts, the difference was only 400 quid, so it made sense to go for the best I could get
