I've just replaced the retail cooler on my Q6600. I wanted to go down the Ultra-120 Extreme route but it was too tall so I've ended up with a Ultima-90 instead (basically the same but slightly shorter).

I now need a suitable 92mm fan (or fans) which is a subject which doesn't get a great deal of discussion. I'd prefer a PWM fan and the Kama 92mm that OcUK sells looks like a decent option.

I'm temporarily running it using the fan off the Intel retail cooler adapted to fit using the frame from an old 92mm fan taken from a dead power supply (slightly Getto but effective for the moment). Even with this far from ideal configuration it's dropped the temperatures by about 15 degrees.

Any thoughts as to whether this is a good choice, or suggestions for better alternatives? Whatever I decide on I'll probably buy a pair and see if running them in push-pull configuration provides any worthwhile benefits.

Thanks.

Scythe fans are good and if noise is a factor they are really quiet as well. You could try a arctic cooling pwm but I'm not sure they come in 92mm.

Yes, I think AC and Scythe are the only ones who make a third party 92mm PWM fan. The AC one is good if you want to drive supplementary fans off the CPU header, but it's quite hard to get hold of because it's so cheap (there is 3 times more profit in a £10 fan than a £3.50 fan) so (r)etailers don't tend to stock them.

OcUK have the 92mm Scythe in stock though, so that sounds like a plan;)

Nexus Real Silent 92mm Fan with PWM control gets my vote.

I use the 80mm and 120mm versions and there really quite and cool well.
