93.71 / 7600GS / Coolbits problems

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this.

I just bought a Palit 7600GS and all is working great. I then started to look around for ways to overclock it, and found that most people use Coolbits. So I downloaded the file, and merged the information with my registry.

Ok...the overclocking options are now present in the control panel. I allowed it to detect optimal settings which it eventually did, but they seemed high so I went for 500 core and no mem overclock. The test failed and so it wouldn't let me apply my new settings. I then tested it on 1Mhz overclock and even at stock detected frequencies, and the tests also failed!

WTF? Have nVidia per chance been naughty and atttempted to restrict overclocking in the latest drivers? If so, how simple is it to roll back to a previous version and re-test?

when i had the a 7600gs i used those same drivers and clocked the card to 520 on the core. the memory on mine was pap though - only went to 420....

but i used ati tool - and before you ask, yes it's fine with nvidia cards.

I use the 93.71's with my 7800GS+ GLH & coolbits and Rivatuner and AtiTool.
All run perfectly, All clock perfectly.

What is your case cooling like? How did the instal go ?
Did you use driver cleaner to bin the old drivers ?

Rolling back is a breeze with Nvid but i would think before i changed those drivers as they are good.
Perhaps a re instal and increased case cooling will sort it.

Malc - the case is a Lian-Li PC7+II so two 12mm fans one pushing one pulling. I've never had temp issues and the card is reading a steady 41 C at idle in Windows.

People do say the latest drivers are good so I think I'll go from the point of attcking the problem with the new drivers. The installation went perfectly as far as I could tell. I didn't use driver cleaner to remove the previous drivers (ATi 9600 Pro) but I did uninstall all the drivers and remove from hardware before rebooting.

I've just downloaded RivaTuner so I'll give that a shot.

Temps are fine mate.
I would suspect the old ATi drivers have left something laying around as i have read many problems caused when switching from ATi to NVid.
Strip them out then use Drivercleaner in safe mode and re instal the Nvid drivers.

Official outcome:

I googled a bit more and found that people had indeed fixed it with RivaTuner. I downloaded it expecting to be using it to overclock, but it appears that it's a bit more of an advanced program capable of changing reg values etc.

Anyway I changed a setting [Global overclock -> disable clock check->"1"] and then rebooted. Now when I clock using coolbits it doesn't give me a warning about unsuitable settings. Now to try it out in some games!
