Looking around online at the moment to see what deals are about. I am considering a cheap C2D setup as an option, I am just wondering what the power increase is going to be from my current system.

Are the 2140/2160 really as good as people say, I can muster 35 secs super PI from the 3800x2, and I know that the E2*** chips can hit 18-20 with a good OC.

Whats the general concensus :)

I haven't really noticed much difference from my 4200x2 to the e2140 in general use. Yes the benchmarks are higher but it's currently the slowest thing in my system. Still a great processor though :)

thinkin more than anything its a good step into C2D and I can get all the upgrade parts for around £100-130 :D

Well I got mine as I blew almost my entire budget on the 3870's and an x38 board :D

It'll last me a few months as I've currently got it clocked to within an inch of it's life and it's just about managing to power my Crossfire. Then when the price of the Q9450 has settled down I'll be going Quad.

might just keep my ear to the ground on the MM and see if some cheaper C2D bits come up.

Im not in a real rush, + chances are, someone like yourself will be selling the chip on the forums, and you knows it a good clocker :)

Well flogged my 939 stuff for the following
X2 3800 for £30 clocked to 2.6
DFI RDX200 for £65
2GD DDR500 RAM for £95
so total £190ish

And got the Ram cpu and mobo in the rig as under for about £230, so for about £40 it was a good investment.

My New rig eats the old one for breakfast, in terms of boot time and loading and general responsiveness within windows.
I felt the jump was like coming from single core to dual core all over again.

Graphically and in games though not much of a difference, my old rig with my x1950 xtx's in crossfire used to make about 10700 in 3dmark06 and in the new rig only made 11600 with the same cards.

Just done that exact switch. Definitely worth it. Faster processor (overclocked!), faster memory, better upgrade potential.

All good.......... in the hood. :)

Where did you sell it all for that money especially the RDX200....they getting rare or summin?. The gracious bay by any chance?

I am most likely gonna go for a DS3, 2140/60 and 2gb of XMS2. I found that all can be had for £130 by searching about last night :D

If you are a gamer and occasional encoder or renderer then its a no brainer, if you find the right buyer for your older kit then your looking at a pretty cheap upgrade.

Socket 939 is still a nice set-up and very usable but if your serious about your computing then moving to an INTEL set-up makes a lot of sense . . . enjoy!

yeah being 3 generations behind is never the future lol. I used to be very console focused, but I have lost interest except for 2d beat em ups on my Dreamcast (Marvel Vs Capcom 2 F T W!) and feew PS2 games, My PC gaming has utterly taken over.

Should I see decent gains in games with the CPU's clocked to around 3.0ghz. obviously games like Sup Com that require good CPU grunt that is.

If i get a decent enough board, once I have paid for wedding and a house, also means I can upgrade the Processor and jump on the quad core bandwagon which will be nice :)

I'd do it just to get away from 939 and move onto a platform that could be upgraded, assuming you get a reasonable overclock then it would be a nice performance boost.
That and 2gb DDR2 would be a good boost from your 939 setup, the extra 1gb alone would provide a much nicer experience.

Remember to look at other benchmarks besides SuperPi though, it means pretty much nothing.
