Did the last of the last 939 4800's have excellent quality chips or something coz i managed this (see pic) with only 0.175 extra on stock volts, take it ive been very fortunate if not? >

Most chips hit 300fsb+ with those sorts of volts, so it's not really that shocking. You bought an expensive chip so it's bound to go fast!

I don't know the default volts for those, what is the voltage at that speed?

Only asked as when i >searched< this overclocking section; many peeps seem to have trouble with anything over 2.75

Well im running it stock 1.350 for sig, 1.400 stable at 2.95, to hit that cpu-z result i had to ramp it tad more due to cpu-0 failing on tests. Purchase of £160 few weeks back, cant complain at that price going by what ive seen them selling for. ;)

That's a very very good chip then going on what other people have been getting! Count yourself lucky! :)

Im sure it will go to 3.1 or 3.2 but im not chancing killing it tbh, happy with 3.0, just need a real decent cooler and ill move up from 2.76 to 3.0. I was told 939 Arctic Pro 64, however everyone i know who tried one of them over stock fan did'nt see any improvement. Would rather use one that dont involve ripping mobo mounting point apart to fit tbh, no idea which one...

Not sure about the mobo mounting side of things, but the scythe ninja is about as good as you'll get at the moment.

Heh thats huge :D Looks the part indeed, mounting wise hmm  To get the results i managed just stuck a room fan over case side to keep temps sub 53c whilst stress tests were run. Without room fan on max the stock cooler even with 4 heatpipes and respectable volts just cant cope at 3.0 :(

i have a sythe ninja on top of my x2 3800, its alright at cooling but i would definately say there has to be a better cooler by now. my x2 3800 runs at 2.4 cant remember details sorry but under full stress of both cores the temps are sitting happily at 50 :D

There are better ones, but only by 1 or 2 degrees. It doesn't really jusitfy the cost of the better ones.

to be quite honest it was a pain to fit but once on there it aint coming off. Its a good cooler i have a zalman 120mm fan on there and one right by the back on the case, great airflow to the cpu :p

Scythe Mine Rev B Quiet Heatpipe CPU Cooler is what im thinking og tbh, heard good things and when you take into the design of MSI K8N Neo 2 board + a height of 105mm (my limit would be 150mm) and the fact i think the Scythe Mine fits without backplate messing around or so i hear? :)

Get another fan to replace the stock one on the Scythe Mine. The 100mm one it comes with isn't the greatest, especailly if you're overclocking to 3ghz.

You won't need to change the motherboard backplate, as it fits to the standard socket and clips onto the middle 2 tabs. Very easy to fit, as long as you have some room for your hands around the cpu socket.

P.S Just watch for the 2 small springs on the heatsink clips. One of mine sprang off when installing it the first time and I had to dismantle my Pc to find it :p

Well the Scythe Mines in and oh my what a diff, great build quality, simple fitment and plenty of room around to clear other parts. Well happy with the now 34/36c on ave idle temps and fan set to low even with my sig overclock.

What temps do you get on full load ?

Just curious so I can compare to my x4200 / Scythe Mine :

2.5ghz / 1.35v / 1st core-39-41c / 2nd core-48-51c

Pity my 2nd core runs 10-12c hotter than the 1st core@load in Orthos

1.35v (stock) 2.76ghz stress 40/38c per core on current clock in sig. Ramped CPU upto 3.0 and max temp with fan on low was 45/43c per core, fan maxed out knocks another 3/4c off, bargain for price i paid. Stick a high rpm fan in like 'YS-TECH FD1238 120mm Fan' then id expect you'd see couple more C's drop off. As for why your cores have 10c diff under load i have no idea tbh as mine never have more than 5c diff between them no matter what im doing. I do have a decent case + ambient is allways around 24 to 26c.
