Ok, I just bought an Opteron 144 from the MM

The Mobo I decided to use is my Neo2 ( NF3 ) Scoket 939 Board, and the CPU will replace my Winchester.

Now, the CPU is apprently a Socket 940 ( According to CPUZ anyway )

Whats the difference?

Never given it any thought till now.

The CPU is running nice enough, I dont seem to be having any problems, although its no quicker than any of my other A64s. Iand I was rather hoping for at least something, I simply have not had any performance boost at all.

Alsop its not as good a clocker as the winchester either. I have just hit a number of stops and I am so far settling in at 2.48. The winchester was ok way past this.

Not that I care, but it would be nice to know that I have not wasted my money.

Anyway, back to the post... Whats the difference between 939 and 940?

Are you using the latest version of CPU-Z?

As a 940 pin chip would not fit (for obvious reasons) in a 939 pin mobo ;)

LOL

I just tried to validate and guess what it said???

Yup, CPUZ has been updated.

Thanks lads.

One of those things that got me for a bit that was.
