I won't mention Conroe as you'd need a new mobo and RAM.

So, 939...it would have to be the X2 3800+ or X2 4400+

Don't even bother spending £150 on single core, you'll regret it later on. Get dual core :)

Get the x2 4400. It's about £165 after adding Gordon Browns whiskey fund tax.

sorry for the semi-hijack

will i see a good performance increase going from a 3000+ @ 2.6Ghz to the X2 4400+? (i will be overclocking the 4400+ btw)

Depends on the apps, if multi-threaded then yes for sure :)

Even if it isn't, it'll still be more responsive. ie heavy CPU workload on a single core 99 % usage it'll be dog slow, on a dual core it'll share that between each core so it'll still be fast. And even if the app is only used on one core, you still have the other core so Windows won't be slowed to a crawl.

nice man - just need £165 now - shouldnt be too long

ema from college (education maintenance allowance) for trace prot and stuff
its just rig cash really and some other money coming in soon

after that more ram and xfi sound card + speakers then a case

gonna be a great rig
