I've recently got a 940BE from a mate for £40 as he bought a x6 1090T. He gave me the heatsink that came with the 1090T too but as I already had the freezer 64pro from my x2 6000+ I figured I would use that.

I slipped in the 940BE & freezer 64pro and OC to 3.4gig (17*200 @ default volts- i dont need anymore tbh). I have primed for 12 hours and under the AMD AOD software (AMD overclocking utility) the max temp is 55-57C load and 32-35C idle. (this being running in a small room in this heat).

Now I cant afford a new heatsink but is 55C full load ok? I know its within normal temps (under 62C) but should I try and re apply the MX3 paste? I spread it thinly on the cooler 2nd time round as the 1st time I did it i put it on the CPU and think i put on too much as it got into the 61-63C. Worth applying again?

I think I put a pea size blob on and spread it out over the heatsink. Would it be better to just leave it or try again with a blob in the middle of the cpu then without spreading out just push the heatsink on, give it a twist and clip it on?

from what ive seen £30 coolers arent cooling much better than 50C... and I'm sure the 64pro could have done a better job...

On a side note, I stuck the heatsink that came with the 1090T onto my mates 720BE (16*200 - 3200MHz) and the full load temp was only 38C....I know its one core less and running slightly slower but would the difference really mean 20C?

I also noticed his 720BE was only running 1.3V stock, should I try to stick 1.3V on the 940BE?

Thanks in advance :D

i'm running a [email protected] with a xigametek 1284 and my temps are similar to yours but i had to raise the vcore to get 3.6. if you are not going to oc any more i'd leave it tbh. but if you want to see if you could shave a few more degrees off i'd put a large grain of rice size blob of paste in the middle of the cpu and place the freezer 64 on top.

AMD 940BE

I have also got a 940 running @ just over 3.6 on air. multi is 17.5 freq is 206 and volts is just over 1.3 sometimes goes to under 1.4 . running temps are great idle@ 29 and load at 40. If your not going to overclock any more then i wouldn't both changing your cooler its a good old cooler. i had one on a amd x2 7850be which would produce high temps from its overclock of only 3.1 because of being a bad chip to overclock. i do admit that i have fenir that i have lapped and also i have lapped the cpu now. even if you did upgrade there are a lot of good coolers for under 30 notes.

Will prob leave it. Ill run prime95 again now and see what it does. I dont wanna keep taking it off and re-applying for the sake of a few 'C Unless it should be running 45C full load with that cpu ill leave be.

cheers guys :)

full load in todays heat for 30 mins topped out at 54.5/55C according to AMD utility... not sure how accurate that is but ill leave it alone. cheers for the help guys.

Those are core temps that your looking at you want to be in the botherboard sensors and look at TMPIN2 as this is the core temps that the AMD specs go by.

MMM, ill try re-applying the mx3 & try lowering the volts from stock 1.35 to 1.32 and lower my ram volts to 1.95V from 2.1V as i guess they produce heat and pass that upto the cpu.

my memeory is HYPER x 1066 but as am2+ systems have the whole 1066 problem im running it at 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1 - im guessing this will be fine at 1.95V or 1.8V?

58'c is a tad high as its been quite cool the last few days so would be really pushing it when we get hotter

I have seen that the tmpin2 on the MA770-UD3 relates to the NB? is that the case?

also seen what tmpin2 relates to varies on the program being used. can anyone confirm whats what?

I hae checked sisoft sandra and amd overdrive and both sa CPU temp is 53-55C max. AMD overdrive says tmpin2 58C max.

Depends on what software your using it would be tmpin1 in HWmonitor

Mmmm I just set all the volts to auto (MA770-UD3 - rev 2.0) which reduced my ddr2 from 2.1 to 1.8V and my temp has lowered from 55-56C on core temp to 53C.

The interesting thing is that the tmpin 1, 2, 3 & 4 now ALL show -294C

ive still not re-applied the mx3.
