Does the 945P chipset officially support the Core 2 Duo CPU?

I had a poke around the Intel website and the 945P is shown as P4, Pentium D and Celeron D compatible. No mention of the Core 2, unless you go looking at the 946 series.

Guessing thats a no then. New processors usually require less voltage and the old chipsets tend not to be able to support them, unless the have a new revision.

Officially the chipset can support Core.
However there are only very few motherboards out there that have the neccessary BIOS upgrade available.

You will need to check with the website for your particular motherboard.

Clear as mud then! :D

I've got a *very* cheap Pentium D 940 machine heading my way later in the week with a 945 board in it. The Core Duo in my MacBook Pro was very impressive, so I'm hoping to be able to bin the 940 and swap an E6300 in.

I'll have to wait and see...

asuses p5ld2 series starting from pcb 2.0 do support them, so i'd guess any brands revised mobo's can

Strange you should mention that. The aforementioned cheap PC arrived yesterday and it's got a P5LD2-FM (Fujitsu-Siemens OEM special) in it. No revision number marked up and I can't find a BIOS update for it (yet).

I was fearing the P-D 940 was going to be a right noisy thing but they've fitted it with an slow spinning 80mm fan so it's quieter than my old P4 Northwood 1.8.

Im sure of it, as I own a p5ld2 myself and in cpu support on asus site it says from pcb 2.01g & newest bios it supports conroes
Never heard of FM, only 2 ld2's that peeked my interest were ld2 delx and normall ld2, and onyl checked for them 2.

About bios: u need the latest beta bios ( maybe a standard bios by now, been ages since i looked, checked it just when *** conroes came out).

EDIT, not from pcb 2.0, but fro mrev 2.01g
EDIT 2: hmm asuses list of 945 chipset mobos, says support conroes from rev 2.0 ( http://www.asus.com/products3.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=185 ) , but cpu support page says 2.01 ( http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5LD2 )
