Right, so i've just sold my GTX260 and gone back to my backup 9500GT until I decide on my new card.

However, the moment I install the nVidia drivers and reboot windows will lock up with messed up colours upon getting to desktop (its actually fine until the nvidia drivers load up then it locks with the messed up colours).

If I do not install any drivers, or just use the crappy ones Vista auto downloads its fine (hence i'm typing on it now!), if I install the official drivers (of which I have now tried two different sets) it locks up at desktop.

In DOS/Safemode its fine.

Now, does this sound like the card is totally knackered to you, or is it some epicly annoying driver issue. I'm leaning more towards the card being borked myself...

Anyone experienced this before?

Nope I tell a lie it does the same crash to desktop with any driver bar Standard VGA, looks like its dead.

RMA time  :(

I take it you have : uninstalled the drivers, rebooted into safe mode, ran driver sweeper or cleaner, rebooted into windoze and installed the drivers of your choice?

Yup about 5 times now :D

Just seems to be once the drivers kick in and initialise the card fully its unstable and locks up.

If I only use the Standard VGA drivers so the card is only running at a basic level it works fine.

Spent about 2hours trying varying drivers and moving between PCI-E slots with no effect.

So off for RMA it goes.

Is there any chance that the card's overclocked from within the nVidia drivers?

I've had a similar issue when CCC would load, it'd load overclocked settings that would cause the PC to hang.

No way to tell.

I can't get into the PC with the drivers on to check, it litterally locks up the second the PC hits the Desktop.

:o

Kylew you were bang on the money.

Looks like there was an old overclocking util kicking in and mega-overclocking my card once it detected it (after the drivers were installed).

Went through my system in Safemode and cleaned out every overclocking tool I had, rebooted and ta da works fine.

No idea why it was overclocking it as i've never overclocked it :| Its always just been a spare.

But hey ho, fixed now and I don't have to mess around RMA'ing it! yay! :D
