Purchased a bundle off the MM a few days ago, 955 BE 3.2ghz cpu.
Put it in a Lian Li v-300 case.

It didn't come with a cooler so I just purchased something cheap: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-022-XG&tool=3

It's only going to really be used for streaming bt sport etc, but playing bt sport full screen it's hitting 65 degrees. :o AMD say max temp should be 62, idle it sits at 37, I don't get why it's so bad under even the slightest load?

Cooler is sitting in direct contact, using coollaboratory liquid pro as the TIM.

I haven't even got the side panels on the case yet either, anything else that could be causing this? Don't fancy frying the processor. :(

First, are you sure you are reading the correct sensor? To verify, use CPUID HWMonitor and look at TMPIN1.

Secondly, I would be looking to see if you actually made proper contact with the cooler. I don't imagine that there surfaces would be very flat with a cheap cooler, and the TIM you are using is VERY thin.

Been using core temp to monitor the temperature.

The bottom of the cooler doesn't look great tbh, first I used the paste that came with the cooler and it idled at 50 degrees! Sits at 37 on the liquid pro. It's just load temps are awful and the fan is very loud as its running at 100% due to the temps, can't seem to lower the voltage in bios either.

I've just been reading customer reviews on a big American site and it sounds like some other buyers have been reporting the same with that cooler, your cooler might have a concave base or something if the quality control isn't that good.

If you can try using a normal thermal paste using the blob method.

Sounds about right! I took the cooler off again, the paste was dark on the one side of the cooler where it looks like it basically baked onto the cooler. So I've just came to the conclusion it's just a bad cooler, not really worth returning for the amount I don't think.

Decided to buy a h100, it's going to be a tight squeeze but I like a challenge and I think it's going to work well. Little project. :)

Oh man some of the Xigmatek stuff can be horrible, had that very cooler in a HTPC with no overclock and never really checked the temps, poor thing was idlling at 55C and shutting off when prime started within 15 seconds, put the intel retail sink back on and it idled in the 30s and loaded with prime at 72C.

Just a shocking cooler then. I'd hate to know the temps it would have got on full load as it'd get to about 79 (Bare in mind 62 is max for the chip) when streaming media which is far from full load, no TIM cleaner would get it off the chip after either, had to use very fine wet and dry paper to get it smooth again.

Just awaiting the arrival of the h100 so I can put it all back together again.

it should wipe off with kitchen towel?

thought about lapping the bottom of the cooler? get it nice and flat and then polish it?

Not worth the effort, I just slung it, replaced with a Thermalright AX100 as I was sticking a 3570K in, nice 4.4Ghz overclock and silent to boot.

'Should' yeah, but it wouldn't, even scraping it with a fingernail wouldn't remove it with TIM cleaner applied, it was properly burnt onto the chip. It was also the same on the bottom of the cooler.

Lucky I noticed the problem with the temps before it was too late as I'm pretty sure it would have fried pretty quickly if I used it daily as it was.
I can't be bothered with the hassle, shouldn't have to do that to a product to make it work properly.

Looking forward to putting a h100 in a tiny case, where the width of the case is the width of the cooler, gonna be a fun day getting it to fit. :D
