955 upgrade?

Not really IMHO, the 970 is just another Phenom II quad core, but with a higher stock clockspeed of 3.5Ghz.

The 970 overclocking seems to top out at around 4.1 GHz with good cooling. As the 955 and 970 performance is the same clock-for-clock - then the maximum performance boost over your 3.7GHz 955 is 9%. Imho, this 9% (maximum) performance boost is not worth £140.

However, if you do a lot of work with multi-threaded applications then a Phenom II X6 is worth a look. I would suggest the new 95w X6 1055T if you were going down this road.
