is a 9550 Intel Quad core C1 chip locked in terms of what FSB it will do (mine is 8.5) or is it the type of mother board that determins what you can do with it?

its locked in terms of what multiplier you can use, not the fsb or motherboard.

Nope. Coming from amd by any chance? No intel equivalent of the black editions

You can use the q9650 with x9 multi, or the qx9650 which is unlocked. I don't think you'll like the price tag on the unlocked ones. Any reason why you want a multiplier above 9x?
