Will not be overclocking at the start.

I know now is not the best time to be buying into a new socket but my AM3 x4 965 is creaking in some situations so my hands are tied. It has been a MOUNTAIN of a CPU and I will be sad to see it go. Its replacement has a lot to live up to.

Gaming is a big factor but I am interested in other things such as Xsplit for live streaming which my current CPU just curls up into a ball and rocks. From what I can tell, the 8 cores on the 9590 genuinely help in this regard and I would expect it would help with video encoding times?

Thanks.

If your in the position where you need to up-grade now your best bet would be go with the 4770K.

You will see more benefit from the i7 with xsplit.

Ask someone who uses Xsplit with an i7 to give you their take, as I don't really put any stock in Tek Syndicates results for the i7.

Only thing I can think why they're so abysmal is the thread priority.

Otherwise I'd find it hard to believe anyone who uses Intel, except from the hexcores would be using Xsplit, as the figures were truly abysmal.

I cant speak for the 4770K or the 9590 but i use the Amd 8350 with OBS and have used Xsplit and the performance is great. I stream BF4/Dayz/Arma with no problems apart from a small FPS drop at 720p

In my opinion if i was to upgrade, what with being with AMD atm, i would go with i7 4770k. The only thing that is keeping me here is the imminent release of mantle.

Streaming from a single machine i think the 4770k is probably the best bang for buck. If you have the bucks the 4930k should do pretty well i imagaine :D

Didn't they do test on an i5? It's easy to see how an fx would beat an i5 in xsplit, but fx vs i7 is a totally different story.

Thread priority would help with the i5, but I'd put it behind the FX83's in this instance (You could do thread priority with the FX's too, 4 cores to the game, 4 to the streaming)

Which is why I didn't mention the i5, only the i7.
While I don't trust their results, it's moot as I'm of the opinion the FX83 would be better suited than the i5 for streaming and gaming.

Compared to the i5 the FX would be better thanks to the extra cores. As for the i7 it's a different story. I use OBS though as I found that to be lighter than Xsplit. How it would compare to the FX I'm not sure... but there is a good price jump from the FX83** to the 4770K (the FX9*** is just damn expensive for what it's worth).

Agreed.

OBS is really great on the CPU for streaming.

There is abselutely no point in buying anything above an FX-83**. When the FX is running at above 4,5-4,6ghz a CM 212 EVO is no longer gonna be enough and you would need to invest in some proper cooling anyway.. And if you have proper cooling then a FX-8350 will reach the 4,8-5,0ghz marker pretty easy when on a proper board which you would also need to run any of the 9*** series chips due to the 1,47+ volts being drawn. So if one do choose to go the AMD path get an 8320 or 8350 and clock its nuts off. Its pretty straight forward.

LLC between high-extreme
Vcore set to 1,47 (or lower to account for the extra voltage coming from increased LLC)
Multiplier = 24
Leave the rest on auto.
This is how easy it was to OC on something like the sabertooth FX990 r2.0 board that i have atm. The second i switched that 212 evo cooler out with a h100i the chip is pretty easy to OC.

Regarding Xplit i think that software package is a pile of crap. very inconsistent and very moody to. Would rather use open broadcaster paired with something like DXtory. But that is just my personal opinion.

I would normally completely agree however you must remember that some people (actually the majority) do not overclock their rig. They just build it and let the bios take care of everything. I did not overclock my I7 950 as 1. I felt uncomfortable doing so as it was so complex and 2. When I did overclock it on a Noctua NH-D14 it was running low 90s. Too hot.

So for some the Centurions are a good bet because you're paying for a 100% guaranteed clock that's stable and within spec. Granted most of us here would just buy an FX 8 and overclock it but some don't. Out of the box then? The Centurion is right up there with the stock 4770k.

If you're adverse to overclocking the Centurions do actually have a place in the market IMO.

At the current 9370 price (£164) I'd consider that if I wanted more chance of stable 5GHz overclocks at lower volts, it's barely any more than the 8350's standard price. Plus the Sabertooth is on offer :)

I personally would go for 4770k. Less power to run it.

Unbelievable misunderstanding of power consumption. People need to really grasp what this actually equates to over an annual bill. Deciding to not buy a processor just because of it's claimed total power consumption is laughable.

With energy saving features on it will consume similar levels to the intel. I would be more concerned about the other devices being used, PSU efficiency etc all will make more of a difference.
