Hello, i bought the 9600 GSO 512mb DDR2 from overclockers and recieved it on saturday, i would have thought this card could have ran red alert 3 maxed without AA but it struggles running it on high.

Also bioshock lag spikes non stop making it unplayable.

PC specs:

Amd Phenom 8450 2.1ghz tri core
3 gigs ram ddr2 800mhz
9600 gso 512mb
320 gigs
windows xp

hmm i could overclock my CPU if any one could give some help during the process. I know the cpu can be overclocked quite easily as i seen it on youtube. i did think there was a bottle neck aswell but didnt think it would have been the cpu. I think my processor can go to 2.6 ghz on stock without any volt changes ;P

What resolution are you using? I wouldn't think the GSO would be suited to anything higher than 1280x1024, particularly not the DDR2 version.

im runnin 1440x900, i could get a good overclock on my processor atm it runs 25 degrees on stock cooling if any one could give a bit of help. i really dont have any more money for upgrades :(

How many SP's does your card have? The ones with 384/768Mb DDR had 96, but im sure ive read somewhere that the 512Mb DDR2 ones only have 48

unfortunately you bought the DDR2 version which is quite slow, also the 2.1GHz CPU is not helping things.

if its an asus 9600gso you got that ocuk sell then im afraid you got a dud mate.

my xpertvision 9600gso 768mb card had ddr3 running at 1.6ghz on a 192bit bus.

the asus 512mb 9600gso has 1ghz ddr2 running on a 128bit bus.

so your card has a considerable lower memory bandwidth level which will hurt it with aa and on high rez stuff.

my 9600gso played games like grid well on near max settings at 1280x960 with 2xAA. and red alert 3 ran fine with shadows on a lower setting at 1600x1200.

run some benches like 3dmark and post up the results here so we can see if your card is running as it should do.

It doesn't matter how powerful the card is if it doesn't have enough memory bandwidth to supply the information to the GPU.

i think its just the graphics card thats the problem, it is only temp till i get money for a new system but was hoping it would be better than it is
