9600GSO -> 8800GTS softmod?

So try flashing it to a GT with only 112 shader processors and a 256-bit bus before flashing to a GTS with 128 shaders?

Awesome, I now live in Hong Kong and the Galaxy 9600GSO is roughly only £50 here. Maybe time to try my luck, one at a time, and SLi them. :D

does anyone thinke nvidia had major error at there graphics card factory where they made far too many 8800 cores. the last 4 or so new cards have all used the same cores havent they ? :p

anyway im guessing this will be similar to the 6800 agp scenario where you could get 6,8,12 pipelines working depending how lucky you are

Reminds me of my old 9500 NP

could soft mod that, some games showed like checkerboard artifacts, others didnt.

i think maybe the majority of unlockable cards are screwed

Yeah have to agree even if you can get hold of the Galaxy 9600GSO overclocked edition there is still no guarantee that it'll work.

What that review doesn't show is possible artifacts and glitches in games other than 3DMark 2006.

Other than that it's the bargain of the century.

with me it seemed to be only on certain surface textures, not the screen. odd :p

i think it was tiger woods 2003 that had moving lines in a checkerboard fashion all over the ground textures, looked horrible lol

Hmmmmm found one of the cards and I have started thinking I may just order out of curiosity sake! lol! Should be easy enough to flog an 8800gt :P

Looks like i may be the OCuK forums guinee pig on this one :D

He who dares rodders!!

I remember the same thing with the ATI 9800 AIW cards softmodding to Pros, a few people made a tidy profit buying and selling them, they sold on the failed ones and got their money back plus made a profit on the 100% softmods.

I was one of the lucky ones as mine worked first time with no artifacts.

time to flog my 9600GT, and relive the 9800se days..

only, hopefully, with more success :D

Or your 9600XT days - dropping screwdriver onto the card whilst PC turned on for the win!

Or your 7900GT days - putting copper CPU heatsink onto the card for it to break after ten mins use for the win!

:p

Doesn't work on the 2 I've seen tested - on rebooting you get pretty patterns all over the screen and have to flash back to original BIOS using a 2nd videocard. Yes these do have 512Mb physically onboard.

maybe not worth the punt then! Still considering it though!
